I need some help, those of you with crawlers in neighborhoods.

Ok guys, me and my wife at some point would like to buy a house. However my wife is convenced that we can not live in a HOA type neighborhood because of the crawler I have. "We have to be in the country, because of that thing." So can you guys post pics and ideas of how I could live in a neighbor hood and still have my crawler ? Thanks guys !!

I have no HOA, but in a regular neighborhood. Never had a problem, but I park my rig in the garage, and try to limit the major work done outside. This hasn't always been the case though, I've had my driveway look like a junkyard before lol!!

Fawk any neighborhood with a HOA. No way I would ever buy a house and be told what I am allowed to do or own, or when to mow my yard, no taking a leak in the front yard, etc. good luck Thomas.

I don't have an hoa, however the city is a force to be reckoned with. I keep the blazer in the driveway a lot and always during projects. If its all OK it parks in the garage. I also have a side yard that I fenced in to put it or my trailer on the side of the house. If its stickers are up to date they can piss up a rope.

I get along just fine in mine. I keep my rig in the garage for all my work and keep the trailer hidden in the back yard.

x2, that was one of my first questions when we were in the prosses of buying a new house. HOA can suck a nut. But i keep my in the garage and the trailer in the back yard. Hell the ftoy was parked in the front yard today when Mitch came over.

There's no way I would live in an HOA and pay someone to tell me what I can and can't do. The city had a fit with me having unregistered rigs and I told them to suck it. If they want to pay my taxes, then they can tell me what I can and can't park in my yard/driveway. Good luck Thomas, hope you don't fall into the HOA communist neighborhood.

Lol, I'm not necessarily going to move into one but just wanted some ideas on what others do to keep the neighbors happy? That's all. We are not even ready to buy but just wondered.

I live on 1/10 acre in the city with a HOA. As you can see, one side of my house is the neighbors fence. At the very least, get a corner lot so you have plenty of parking space. That is the only way I have survived so long. I built a 12' gate to the backyard since I have a long trailer and have to part it in the yard at a 90 degree angle to the road. I'll admit, it's cramped quarters and I'd love to have more space, but it's paid for and it works. Only real problem I have is the neighbors like to park in "my" spots.

Also, HOA can't complain as much about stuff in your backyard. I had the ugliest homemade kids fort in the world and never got a single letter from HOA because it was in the backyard.

Yeah, you can't please everyone. I do my own thing anymore and don't really care what the neighbors may think. Be respectful and that will go a long way sometimes. Now that I have the shop, I can close the doors and work all hours of the night and not be concerned with waking the neighbors kids. Plus, when inside there, I don't have to listen to their loud crap that goes on every weekend.

Where i live they have a non-mandatory HOA that has no power except to run and tattle to the city. Got obe letter for my trailer being parked on the grass. No problems since then and i leak ATF all over the street with no worries lol. Makes things easy if your rig fits in the garage, then they cant say a damn thing

Hoas don't under stand the law as well as they should, I get a letter about once a month about the single cab ram in the drive way it is registered, runs and drives. They bitched about the inspection being out so I called and nicely explains that because the vehicle sees no road use it is not required to be inspected and I have a OHV decal on it and insurance they have since backed off. That and if you get enough dirt on your neibors they tend to shut up about stuff you do.

jeepinty just gettin started
My folks lived in a neighborhood with an HOA but since all the neighbors were cool it didn't really matter. Everyone rode 4wheelers around on the street and hung out in their driveways watching football. As long as the neighbors are cool it usually doesn't matter.

That being said there are some neighborhoods in the Houston area that are bad, bad to the point were if you have a basketball goal with a torn or missing net they will actually send someone to replace it and then send you a bill. Those are the places that make you pick up your trashcans within a few hours of trash pickup and won't let you leave the same vehicle in the same spot for more than 2 days in a row. I don't see how anyone except the most anal, annoying, rich douchebag could ever stand to live in such a place.

I moved out to the "country" recently but I am still in a nice, newer neighborhood just outside the city limits where there is no HOA only a few deed restrictions to keep mobile homes and such out. It does state I can't have any "portable" buildings but I just asked the neighbors if they were cool with my 12x24 shed and they were so I built it, no problem.

You should be able to find a nice neighborhood without an HOA depending on where you are looking. Another option is to find a place with plenty of room to build a shop or a place that already has one. Do all your work and keep your junk inside.

Sucky part of an HOA is... You won't know how strict or picky it is till u live there... Both of my houses have been in HOA hoods. Never had complaints. Occasionally worked in the driveway, but most of the time in the garage and tried not to grind/cut/bang too late at night. It's a crap shoot. But most everything is when there are people, other than yourself, involved that can have an opinion.
