Independence Trail

yup, I read an article by the guy who "opened" the trail...

nobody in that group was running bling/big gun stuff.....

but, it did say lockers and a winch were mandatory.....

as to the body damage potential...well, I really don't care too much
about the straightness of my sheet metal anymore.....

that, and here in about 3 weeks, I will have my 5.13's and need a good
"shakedown" run before my next visit to the Hill Country at the end of May

oh, now.......you guys make me blush......

didn't someone just say on another thread that "it's all in the driver"

or is it that you all don't want me to end up being "that dork"
as Rockchip put it a while back?

quit screwing with my plan of world domination, or you will all pay!!!!!

..really, though, I want to go, and unlike some folks, I do not see any shame
in pulling the string out once in a while.....so what if I can't just "drive right thru" where's the challenge in being able to master every trail your tires ever touch the first time around?

To my understanding, the trail is MUCH worse than it was just one or two years ago. I read a write-up I found from a google search where they ran it on 31x10.50s. That's absolutely NOT possible now. My 36s were really almost too small, and I can only chalk my/our successful voyage up to the awesome guys from up there that babysat us all day!!

define "tear up"......I have a feeling that with the way I drive(patient)
and my willingness to use the braided steel when I need it will give me
a real shot at doing the trail without much if any driveline failure...

Besides, I will have fun either way, right?

I would say 90% chance of body damage and for the drivetrain failure I don't think it matters how patient you are things could break, I wouldn't run it without spare front shafts. And it ifsfun but can be a long day.

gimme 100% chance of body damage...sounds fun....

I actually have two spare sets of front shafts, my stock junk
AND a complete set of chromos....as soon as my 5.13's are installed and broke in, I am ready to go...

for what it's worth, the new gears get me a first gear crawl ratio of 116.5 to
1

By all means, GO! This is a 10. It's one of the most intense trails there is.

But be respectful! This is Calirado. LOTS of tree huggers out there trying to close trails.
Pack it in, Pack it out! NOT the river.

for what it's worth, at the river yesterday two fellas in a black toyota pick up
were getting their butts handed to them by the lower portion
of Hang on Hill when I decided to help out...during the accent, the passenger tossed several empties right out on the trail..I should have smacked the guy or or at least told him and the driver to pick them up...instead, I quietly retrieved them from the ground without making a fuss....didn't want a brawl over some empty cans...but, it's that crap that will cost us our trails, as guys like me or those of you that care will not always be there to clean up after the bobo's......

I would definitely not leave anything lying on the trail at Indy, and anything
I found I would pick up...just like at the river...
