Question Jeep trans question

We have a 92 YJ at the shop that the 5spd trans is done for. I just purchased a 95 YJ 5 speed. I was going to swap the two but just noticed that the 92 is manual clutch and the 95 is hydro... or atleast the bell housings look entirely different. Can i just swap the two bell housings? Either way i will find out, but i was just curioius before i tear into it.

I think the ax15 is the newer one , the other is Peugeot, I don't think bell housings are interchangeable.

94 is the year they put the slave cylinder outside the bell housing that should be an ax15 I think...
The 92 could be an ax5 or the Peugeot...

It all depends on what motor you have. It you have a 4 banger than it's either a peugot or a AX5. If its a 6 banger then it's a AX15. Never put a transmission that comes behind a 4 banger to a 6 cylinder. It won't hold up.

I had a 6 banger with a peugeot 5 speed in my xj. I went shopping for an AW4 to swap in and I found one. My buddy said "yeah i got one, but it comes with a 4.7 stroker motor!"

So what was originally just me shopping for a transmission, turned into something totally different. But hey sometimes things work out for the better haha

I forgot they put the Peugot behind the 4.2. Scratch the peugot comment then, It will hold up.

I heard horror stories about them. But haven't actually experienced those horror stories first hand. I just chose to skip that step and go straight to an aw4. Aw4 is the best automatic jeep ever used

I put a transgo shift kit in mine, used a modified turbo 400 winters shifter, and a RAdesigns shift controller that holds every gear until you manually shift it, it completely eliminates the TCM. After i rigged up this contraption, i got on pirate4x4 and saw they had just put this out (link below)... I wish i had gone that route but it wasnt on the market when i built mine

Upon further inspection. The 92 is a 5 spd with hydro clutch and so is the trans i have. This being said the bell housings look entirely different. The actual trans looks the same, so we are going to just hope that the bell housings swap over.
