Mud cleanup: How do you do it?

No smartazz answers please. This is a knowledge post for the mud crowd.

"Don't play in the MUD."
"Don't go in the MUD."
"Stay out of the MUD."

You get the idea. Although I know someone will post up just to bust balls.

Anyhow...

Here are a few tricks I've used to help clean up after muddin' or to help keep the goo off the truck as much as possible while muddin'.

1. Rain-X the windows
2. Pam cooking spray the undercarriage
3. WD40 undercarriage
4. Mud Guard the truck
5. Park it with a oscillating sprinkler under it for a few hours
6. Immediately go to the car wash with it after you go muddin.
7. Run through as many water holes as you can to help loosen off the goo.

Let's see what everyone else comes up with...

I used to use baby oil...spray it all over the undercarriage and on the paint. It would cause the mud to flake off the paint and it'd be easier to blow it off from the undercarriage when I went to the carwash.

i always used the spam on the under carriage and sprinkler under it. under it is the hardest part to clean i always thought.

I don't go in the mud much ... But with no roof, windsheild or doors it sucks to get caught in it ... But when I did do it the Pam / Wd40 and washin it quick worked great but most the time I wore the mud for weeks like a badge of honor

I've noticed in my very limited mud experience that it depends on the mud. Some falls off when it dries, and some turns into a kind of concrete that requires chisels to remove. Generally, I let everthing dry then drive over RR tracks to shake chit loose.

I have always just left in on the truck until the next run. Of course mine was not a daily driver. The problem is when you run 44" boggers, you end up with mountains of mud crammed EVERYWHERE. If i ever needed it off, I have taken a rubber hammer to the frame and tires.

I just use a pressure washer and wear some safety glasses and go scuba diving under the vehicle to get all the mud and muck off of the underside. It really sucks but that's the best way to get all of it off. Also use the same approach after a long weekend of fishing down as the coast to get all the salt off.

I have taken the jeep mudding and right after i was done playing I would drive to the creek with a 5 gallon bucket and dump numerous buckets inside to clean out all the big stuff. No top and full widths makes for alot of mud all over and inside.

I only go mudding in the rain. Keeps the truck cleaner that way.

I usually clean it right after we leave from the mud spot, we have a big power washer at work that has heat and it does a good job.

i didnt do a damn thing but i was in the pit for hours. peeled off all my paint. my texas flag front diff cover, shackle paint, axle paint. FACTORY PAINT!!! it got it all.

had mud everywhere, and still do. top of the gas tank was the most difficult to clean. ive still got it above the heat shields over the mufflers and in the caliper area.

had to remove the radiator shroud and get the radiator from the backside. sprayed the core support hiding palces for hours. probably washed it for 6 hours total. its in the cracked headlight. i will never remove it all. im gonna get some mickey thompson baja garbage so i stay out of the mud!!

i had a DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN good time though

VVV after the first run lol

with mine i have full with axles and now windows or doors so i just let it dry then drive it in the pasture or the creek, slam the hood a couple of times and knock it all off or let mother nature do its thing and then take a shop vac and vacum the inside out. the hardest part is getting it out of the wheels since i have beadlocks
before

after

Would something like vegetable oil in a pump up sprayer work if you sprayed it before hand? It ought to cook off of the headers pretty quick with little trouble as long as you didn't get it too thick on them.

Don't know how well it would work on a truck but if you put lemon pledge on the plastic of a dirtbike or fourwheeler the large clumps fall right off after they are dry.
