My New Whip (as they say)!

Two weeks ago I got a new 05 Dodge 3500HD 4x4 CrewCab Cummins Turbo diesel dually. It had 32 miles on it when i got her home from the dealer. I was forced by my dad not to ever finance anything, so i had to save for a while (2 years) before i could get the $43k sticker price. After all TT&L i only gave $38k for it.

Today the odometer read 1289 on it.

Why am i still getting 14.5MPG? Is it really true that it takes about 10k miles before your fuel mileage goes up? don really atter to me how many MPG it gets, i thought i would get more than 14.5 out of it.

Well what yall think?

LakeTex just gettin started
Hook up a trailer and tow about 1000 miles with it. Fuel mileage will go up. The cummins just needs to get broken in. When I had my '02, I hooked up to by K5 and towed it 1000 miles and the cummins had less than 2K on it. Got 20 mpg after that. Have had friends that didn't do this and their mpg sucked till 30K

My '01 CTD was bought with 26k miles and getting 20mpg highway unloaded. By 50k I was up to 21mpg highway unloaded. It was still breaking in.

I've heard the same as the rest of them . However my mileage wasen't as good as yours when mine was new. Seems like I had about 5,000-8,000 miles on it and getting between 10 and 12 mpg. I sold myself an Edge EZ Diesel programer and my fuel mileage increased 10 mpg instantly. Put this unit on two other CTDs at work as well with the same results.

Congrats on the new rig.... but

when i had 380 miles on the truck i put a backhoe behind it every day on a 32' dovetail gooseneck. the backhoe alone weighs 18k.

i am NOT happy at all with this truck.. the turbo burnt up at 3k miles.. rearend went out as soon as turbo was fixed.. seeing as how everything was fixed on the truck under warranty and now have 9k miles on it, dodge is taking the truck back (paying me back my $38k cash) and lettin me go down the road. i currently own 5 '05 dodge's like this one that i have a crew in every day, only theirs is a SL and mine is a Laramie. i also have 5 '05 single cab cummins 4x4 dually's, 3 '05 single cab V6's 2x4 all from dodge.

from ford:
06 f350 crew cab fx4 king ranch
4 '05 f250 ext. cab fx4 xlt that i have crews in every day

but as for my dodge, it is going back to the dealer and im leaving in my 06 ford

It'll get better

I have an 05, 2500, 4x4, CTD. with 6k miles on it, with 2k of that towing. I am averiging 18.1 mpg in my daily driving and 14.2 towing at 70 mph. It is getting better all the time. I LIKE THIS TRUCK. I have the 3.73 gears. So at 70 mph I am only turning about 1950 rpm's. With the 3500 you probably have lower gears. So you will probably be turning a few more rpm's.

i have a 1997 FORD F-350 crew cab 4x4 PSD, with 193k on it and every 50k my mileage goes up! upto about 17 now. runs like a top and has towed tractors, boats big and little and everything in between. it does need the tranny re-built and the a/c charged up but other than that it has run great with only needing 2 new batteries, and a water pump at 185k.
