New truck?

Gonna start getting serious about a truck pretty soon. I'm keeping all options on the table. I'll be looking for dodge mega cab in a cummins or hemi 4x4, duramax 4x4 or a ford super duty 4x4. I'm pretty clear on what motor to stay away from on a duramax. But my question is what motor to stay away from on a Super Duty?

You do not want a 6.4 super duty.. The 6.7 is a nice one in the fords, and if you want to go gas, the 6.2 has received many high remarks.

I like our 12 Cummins, but the mileage sucks! I'd hate to see what a 4wd gets. Mickey has the 6.7 Ford and really likes it and says it pulls great. Much better than the 6.4.

You know Im a Ford guy but if you want a diesel dont buy anything from a 03~10. 6.0s and 6.4 suck. The new 6.7 PowerStrokes are super nice.

Ya I don't want anything that is brand new. I'm really leaning towards a mega cab hemi or a 6.2l gas super duty. I think if I'm going to go back with a diesel it will be a 5.9 cummins or a 6.7 super duty. If I can find a 07 5.9 mega cab then that's what I'll go with. But everyone I've seen that is for sale I could almost get a brand new one but with the hemi in it.

On the highway, the wife's automatic will pull 16.5, but around town it drops to high 13's to low 14's. It's bone stock and has just over 30k miles. We bought it with three miles on it. My '05 with a six speed 2wd gets 20-21 empty.

New truck?

I know the 03-10 fords get a bad rep but I have had pretty good luck with my 05. My only com ain't is the milage is a little low.

Bought it at 75k miles and immediately had it bullet proofed before I even started driving it. Only thing I have had to do since then that I wasn't ready for but expecting was the ficm started failing in me.

I average 14.5 to 15.5 on my morning commute down 75 and 18.5 empty at 70 with 285/70r17s.

Towing 8k cruise locked at 70 got 12.5 from Sealy to Dallas and I wasn't being easy on it getting on the highway.

Like blazer boy, I liked my 03 6.0 ford. Same boat, I bulletproofed it right off the bat. Mileage sucked, but i was lifted. Main reason I got rid of it was that it was getting too rusty.

You can find the 6.0's for dirt cheap because everybody is scared of them. If you budget for it and don't let it surprise you, you can end up with a lot of truck for a good deal overall.

New truck?

I dropped mine off at a place called Powerstroke magic in Houston when I was living in college station.

They did an egr delete, new Oem head gaskets with arp head studs, stc fitting, standpipes and dummy plugs, new factory oil cooler and sct tunner.

The absolute most important thing you need to so is swap out the factory ford gold coolant for a cat ec1 rated coolant. Factory gold coolant had a high silicon content which dropped out when it got hot that which led to a clogged oil cooler an caused all the blown head gasket problems.

Arp studs, egr delete, reworked the heads, new oil cooler, new up pipes, regulated return system, and some custom tunes. The truck did need injectors, however they were stockers with 160k on them, so I'd say they did pretty good. Truck had received a hpop from previous owner around 85k on it.. I would have kept it and done an injector upgrade and fuel system upgrade next if it wasn't for the rust that it had.

For what its worth, I have a half ton with the 6.2 and it tows my Jeep all over great without issue. Mileage is horrible though. I get 15 mpg straight highway. 13 mpg city/hwy. 10.5 towing.

I'm pretty sure if I get anothet diesel it will be a 06-07 mega cab 5.9 cummins.

Not 100% Jeremy but I think you can get 2 different hp levels on the Ford 6.2. I think 315hp, and 385hp.

The superduty version has less than the F150.

Superduty - 385 hp/405 lbft

F150 - 411 hp/434 lbft

Those 5.9L 06/07 model owners think those trucks are made of freakin gold with ranch dressing on top. They are asking more used with 100k miles on them than they were new just about. I had one. 07 CCSB 4x4, 5.9L 5 speed and I paid $31k for it NEW. I sold mine for $28.5 three years later....it only had 40k on it though.

Ya I found a 08 mega cab I really like. But if im going to go back to a 6.7 motor(which I have no problem doing) I think I will wait and get me the body style like yours. Which it looks like what ill probably end up doing. The wife is back wants a Tahoe again. Which is fine with me. It will pull the buggy just as easy. Plus I can sleep in the back of it on wheeling trips.

Yep every 06/07 ive seen they want a arm and a leg for it. I seen a 06 mega and a 10 mega on CL the other day and the 10 model was just a little under 2k more than the 06. F that 06, I would pay the little extra for the 10.
