optima battery help

i was driving around my buggy today and i looked down and noticed that my battery seemed to be leaking out of the vents
heres a picture

i noticed it only does it when im on the gas. could my alternator be over amping the battery? i noticed the gauge did read 16 volts. i have a one wire alternator that is hooked up to a switch so i can turn it on and off.
any suggestions on whats up with my battery?

if a optima gets overchargered it liquifies(sp) the gel inside.(thats why you cant "fast charge" them) i would say your right and you need a new alternator and prob. a new batt. is it under warranty?

you might want to make sure the vents aren't touching anything metal also. and remember trickle charge is your friend.

Ihave been told it will let a small charge go through it. I would just try to isolate it or notch the metal if possible. I have never seen one do this before though.

If you can, get some military style terminal clamps. These are peemp. A few dollars more than the parts store special, but being able to just bolt all the wires together w/ terminal ends is so much better and cleaner IMHO.
