Exclamation Propane sucks!

Glad ya looked!

I NEED HELP!

Matt's blazer has a 396bbc that is bare bones stock. It has a 425 tamper proof mixer on it. The damn thing will only run up to 2,000 rpm and then it acts like it is starved for fuel. The weird part is that it is a problem that will randomly go away completely. I got it to turn upwards of 5500 rpm easy under load just last night and now today its back to the 2,000 rpm bullshit!

I talked to Harley and I adjusted the two screws a few times and I thought I had it fixed! The system doesn't have leaks and it is full of pane.

I believe I gave it all the fuel it can. I screwed the bolt out pretty much all the way on the screw closest to the throttle lincage and set the middle one at 7 turns out from bottom.

The engine timing is set at 36 degrees advanced.

Yeah, the weird part is how it comes and goes. It seriously it night and day difference, when it runs like **** there is nothing you can do to get it past 2,000 rpm load, or no load.

Have anyone in your area with a known good 425 carb you could try just to take that part out of the equation?

The only time i had issues not running past 2K on RPM I was running low on propane with a load. I thought my tank was full. Never trust the gauge on their. George also informed me to only turn the cut off valve about one turn open(or their abouts). not all the way open. and for some reason my system would not work without having a electric cut off valve installed.
is the system new? My old electric cut off wasn't working properly so sometimes it would start and other times it wouldn't. My fuel filter was partially clogged as well.
Other than that I haven't really had any issues.
Have you tried standing the tank up? no kinks in the LP line? pictures of the install would be cool.
My set up can run without the air filter installed. But Chapparro Mike told me his wouldn't run right without the air filter installed.

to trouble shot mine I uninstalled the electric cut off but left the LP lines hooked up. opened the tank some and hit the switch to see if gas was passing. That is when I found out about the clog and cut of switch had a short.
Break it down into segments .....slow process but at least you can figure out where the problem would be.

I'm getting old and never really gave it much thought to figure out what's what. The Mixer or whatever sits on top of the throttle body. Pull up on the diaphragm with your clean fingers and make sure it isn't getting stuck anywhere. it should slide smooth up and down. Should stay seated in the close position.

Is the evaporator freezing up? Does it do it with any bottle or just one bottle in particular?

Did Matt change the filter yet?? That pane setup had 5 trips on it, and performed flawless so I seriously doubt it's a bad seal issue.. Change the filter, or even bypass it temporarily.. Also, may make sure the vaporizer doesn't have any oil in it that has managed to pass through the filter. What was changed around in the mixer/vaporizer/lockoff mounting, Is something done differently there now??

Evaporator isn't freezing up and it does it with both tanks.

No filter change to my knowledge. How would I check for oil in the vaporizer? I'm new to propane as well

Change or temporarily bypass the filter first before anything else.. I would pop the vaporizer off and try to dump any oil in it out of the Input line fitting.. Try the filter first though..

Yea I would try the system without the filter and then without the lock off .as it ever backfired thru the carb? Does the problem change if you cut off the system and restart?

Have you even looked at the ignition system?
A bad hei module or coil will do the same thing.

In conclusion we have found the problem to be no fuel. Lol both tanks were completely dry. Matt said it never ran good since he tried the pane so maybe the screwing I did on the mixer did help, but the majority of the problem was complete lack of fuel. Derp

That would explain why it sounded like lack of fuel.. Now to find out where the leak is, I know the aluminum tank he got from me was full and recently certified.. Time to open he valve and put soapy water on everything an find the bubbles..

You can use a liter if you don't have any soapy water.
