Searching for IH part..

Anyone know of a salvage yard local to San Antonio that has scout stuff? I'm looking for a 74/75 travelall flat top knuckle (passenger side). I'll take a whole front axle assembly if the price is right, otherwise, just the knuckle and the outer parts.. I want to go cross-over steering on my rig and need to keep the 5x5.5 bolt pattern.

Thanks!

BTW: if you know a place or someone who may have the part elsewhere; let me know.

I believe you can use a chevy knuckle, but you would have to redrill some of the holes for the spindle; IH uses 8 bolts, chevys use 6. You might also be able to use a chevy spindle to avoid drilling if you get one of the early external hub spindles. Another option would be to use ford or dodge hubs to keep the bolt pattern the same. You would also be upgrading to the stronger internal locking hubs at the same time.

Good luck finding any fullsize IH parts, there's not a whole lot out there. Especially 4wd.

What years/ makes should I look for with the dodge and ford stuff? If I can upgrade my outers, that would be great!

I would say 78-79 for ford hubs/rotors. They use the internal hubs and should work with the chevy spindles with the right combo of parts, but I cant say for sure what you would need. They use different bearings, so they likely arent a dirrect swap. Do some searching and you should be able to find out. I was going to do this swap on my scout. A few years ago you could get a new hub and rotor at autozone for about $50/ea. I dont think they carry it anymore, but you may be able to get it at another store.

Regardless of which combo you go with you will need the right stub shafts if you go with internal hubs.

Do some searching on Pirate and google to find out the specifics. I was looking into this swap on my scout a couple years ago, but I never got around to it so the details are a little fuzzy.
I'm not sure what years had the 5.5" bolt pattern on the dodges, I think it was the 80s. Watch out on those though, some had a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern. They use the same wheel bearings as a chevy, so I would assume they would be a direct swap. Most dodge axle parts will usually swap with chevy. If you could find a dodge donor axle with flattops (if they even exist) that would be the easiest and best thing to do.
