What would you build?

Just a fun brainstorming thread. Been wanting to build a tube buggy for a while but on a super budget with randomly collected parts just for fun. Here is what you have:

Tube bender
Chop saw
Welder
Cheap notcher
Hand tools

What would you build for very small, budget tube buggy to run 37s or 39s? Donor vehicle? Axles, motor, tranny, tcase? Suspension, tires, wheels? Cheap as you could make it without it ending up on the Ghetto Fab thread on Pirate.

Be as specific as you can.

I will catch alot of grief over this, but it's hard to get any more budget than toyota. Personally, I would look for an 84 or 85 toyota truck and rob the running gear and drive train.

Tube chassis, air shocks, 3 links with 7/8 joints, jeep 4.0, auto and a d300. Scout d44s f&r, and find some used sticky 37s..... Oh the chassis would be a very tight fit for 2 people, would do something like Mitch's chassis.

All these little zuks popping up have me wanting to build one. Very minimal tube, very little sheet metal, linked on yota axles with lots of gearing. I'd try to shoot for 2500lbs. Maybe something simular to the formula zuk chassis with skins. Idk

I don't know jack about toyotas but that is what I gravitated towards. 84-85 donor truck, keep all the drivetrain and run propane, weld stock axles, double tcase, used airshocks, used SE hydro, ebay or Ruffstuff heims on square links, RZR sized tube chassis that barely fits 2 made from HREW, cheap steel wheels w/o beadlocks to save weight, used 37inch muds, splurge on buggy front clip to make it look nifty, wheel piss out of it. Bad thing is I am lazy and really want an auto. They make adapters for the toy 4cyl to a powerglide?

With a doubler you put it in gear and hardly ever shift gears. Lazy approved!

4.3 to th350 to dual toyota cases with 4.7 rear, on fj80 axles (could possibly make the rear a steering axle). Would be fairly light and pretty strong.................. Or make it like the famous bash buggy that Randy Slawson built a long time ago off Pirate. I couldn't find the original thread but I know he spent a lot less building it and had a little bit different drivetrain in it. It was stupid light and conquered everything it seemed.

Yota axles for sure on any lighter build, hard to beat the strength on the smaller axle and the huge aftermarket support!

79-85 toyota LWB scrap the body and tube it out. 20R-22R or 22RE (1985) W56 transmission, Dual stock transfer case. High steer and hydro assist. stock axles are okay with 36 and smaller. Longfields or Dirty 30 for 37 and above. If you can do your own gears i would go with 5.29 and weld both carriers. go with the later style flanges and drive shaft that use the 10mm bolts. I would stay away from the 8mm flanges and drive shafts.
Toyota is by far the cheapest to build over a Jeep/Chevy/Dodge/Ford for Rock crawling.
EFI would be cool but for the carb 20R or 22R go propane.
Being that I have done jumped over to a 4.3/SM465/Dana300 running on pane and one tons. I have more in my one ton chevy axles now than before when I was running all Toyota gear with up-grades.

80's toyota donor truck, lots of poo pipe, air shocks. With that I would build a miniature rock bouncer style chassis. Actually planning on doing this for my boys.
