Yesterday's fun

I didn't do any wheeling yesterday but I did get to see a good stuck. I noticed the other day that they were spraying the edges along the transmission line right of way. They had parked there skidders across the road Tues. evening. Yesterday, a work truck came up to the house to let us know they were going to be spraying in the area. They wanted to know what we wanted them to skip as they came through our place. I showed them the rasberry tree and my garden spot. They fired the two skidders up and drove down each side of the clearing, spraying the limbs along the edge and other sapplings out in the middle. They got an area I haven't been able to take the riding mower in and then dissappeared over the hill. I took for granted that they knew there wasn't a way across the creek and figured they would be coming back through soon. When I saw one of the 2wd work trucks come past the house and head down towards the creek, I knew something was up. The hill is steep enough for that truck to have a hard time getting back up. I had been listening to one of the skidders but thought it was just the Detroit engine and they must be covering the hill pretty good. When I walked down to the gate to get a look see, I saw that the Cat skidder was nose down in the creek and they had the other backed up to it trying to pull it out. The Cat was larger than the other and was having trouble coming out. I came in to get the camera and headed down in the Jeep. They were a little nervous when I brought the camera out but I told them I just had to get pics of the stuck. I only took a couple pics though. We tried wrapping a cable around a tire but the only tree to anchor to was off to the side. It moved but not enough to grab traction before the cable would slip off the side of the tire. They decided to head to town for lunch and try to locate some snatch blocks. They were able to find some and got the thing out about 3:00. I spent my day just making sure the trucks made it back up the hill.

We've got 2 John Deere skidders about that size at work. They have 600 gallon diesel fuel tanks on them. I've seen them stuck but we've got a few bottomless mudpits out there. I really need to bring a disposable camera to work.
