Yota Flatbeds. I need some ideas...

I'm wanting to get some ideas before I start building my flatbed for the yoter. Gonna try to keep it relatively simple, cause I'm hoping to keep my material budget at $100-150 or so. Basically I was thinking something like this:

(Forgive the crappy paint drawn quality. Not at home and my laptop doesn't have autocad on it...)

Probably gonna use HREW for the tube, with 2 90s for the main bar, and just saddle the runners with no bends to keep it simple. As far as the plate goes, I'm thinking maybe 3/16" and 3 2x4x.120 square "supports". Probably gonna keep it exactly like my temp wooden flatbed is now:

So, any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, tips, templates, or pics? I'd certainly appreciate it!

I like the second one you posted Mitch. That would look good on the yota.

Ditto^ I really like the second one. That first one looks like the allpro flatbed kit.

Is that your yota in the 2nd pic Mitch? If so, got any more pics of the flatbed? And how do you like that double shackle setup in the rear? Fold in on you at full droop? Been thinking about running a double shackle, but I'm iffy about road manners...

No, they're not mine, but I am thinking of doing one similar(sp) to the second one.

Dog gone. Guess that pirate link has more than enough ideas for me. Still like that silver one best though. Probably make mine similar to that one.

So next question, who knows where to score some decent priced hrew here in SATX? Don't think I'd need more than 25' would I?

Well I called Triple S. They ain't got squat except for 14ga pipe.

So I called Vestal Steel out in schertz, and I got quoted $52 for 30' of standard pipe hrew .140" wall. Think that'll be thick enough, and is that a decent price for the tube alone?

And also, if anyone has any plate for sale (gonna be looking for a piece about 5'x3' of whatever thickness, maybe diamond if the price isn't too high), let me know!

I haven't been to Ashley's but they sell scrap metal. My buddy and his brother has bought stuff from them. Maybe you can find your flat plate their.
Mike

With Triple S...did you ask when the next shipment will be coming in? I bought 6 24' sticks from them. I think it was in the mid S30 dollar range....but that was last year. That was for 1.75 HREW .120 tubing.

Dog gone. 6x24' sticks of 1.75x.120? Either steels gotten silly high, or I'm getting ripped one.

And no I didn't think to ask when they're next shipment was...

About 3 weeks ago they had 30 sticks left when I bought my 1.75 OD x .120 wall HREW. I seriously doubt it's all been sold.

I dunno. May have been a miscommunication... Now that I think about it, I may have asked for 1 5/8" od tube. Oh well, I just picked up my 30' of 1.75x0.14 for $50 even.

Got quoted $148 for a sheet of 4'x8'x1/8" diamond plate from there also. Don't know if that's a good deal or not, but I was hoping to stay around $50-100 for my plate.

Gonna sketch up a rough draft of what I plan on doing in cad once I get home. I imagine it's gonna look pretty similar to that 2nd one Mitch posted. Found it super sexy. But I might add mix in some of these ones too:

Well basically for a rough idea, gonna be this:

Sorry for the bad quality. Still aint home, so I just downloaded google's cad program and made something up real quick. But yeah, you get the idea. Gonna have a tube bent around the edge of the plate, and if I have enough left, a hoop by the back of the cab with maybe some runners going to the back end of the plate, so I can eventually exo it.

I don't know exactly when but I know it has been at least few years ago that they built the flat bed on the blue yota.

Quick question. Would 1/8" be too thin to stand on without bowing without bracing underneath, or should I get quarter diamond plate instead? Gonna be picking it up from SSS today.

I would put bracing under 1" but that is just me. I would go the 1/8" route with some bracing.
