Giggity Giggity Gigging

Went gigging with a buddy last night on the back side of mustang island.

Got in the water around 7:30 and we probably covered 2-3 miles wading.

We ended up with 4 serious flounder. A 19", 21", 22" & 23".

I got the 21" first about an hour into the trip, 30 minutes latter my buddy gets the 19", some time passes and we turn back for the second leg of the wade.

Another hour goes by and he pulls a ninja stab at a fleeing flounder, and nails it. This thing is thick! He's struggling to get this thing in the net and it flops off the gig and out of the net and lays down about 8 inches from my foot. So I stick it and save the day. 22" Flounder on the stringer

After that gracious dose of luck, we're thinking we're done and there is no way we're going find any more so we agree we will split the fillets on that third fish as it was a team effort.

About another 30 minutes later I see this beast of a hump at about the same time as my buddy. He concedes the honors to me for my save earlier and I stick it and string it and am a happy feller. 23" saddle blanket

After that we didn't see any more fish but saw a lot of LARGE fresh flounder beds. It's about 11:30 by now and the fog rolls in thick. We are less than 75 yards from the shore the whole time but couldn't see 20' in front of us; so great, now we're lost. Took about another 45 minutes to find the damn truck.

Drank a celebratory beeer , went home, showered and crashed out.
Hell of a night!

Hey sorry been out of pocket last couple days. We haven't really been hitting it very this year. We got out a little extra early on a couple occasions and gig a little bit before the sun came up but we didn't go a whole lot. This was the first real dedicated trip we took to go gig. Definitely going to hit it up again soon.

Thanks for everyone's comments. Cooked some of it up last night with a recipe I posted in the recipe section. And it was good!
