Exclamation Chevy Odometer Question

Anyone have any ideas about what would cause my total and trip odometer to not work even though the speedo works and everything else on the cluster too. Its a 1991 Chevy C3500 with a 350tbi and 4l80e, I'm not sure of what style speedo cable is on it (mech or electric) i think it may be a gear or something inside has broken.Any help with this would be great.

Speedo is VSS. Odometer is powered by a little motor & gear in the cluster. I would pull the cluster to see if either are damaged.

THIS ^^ I have a 93 short bed that had the same issue. It was electric but in my search to figure it out I read several articles that blamed that little motor, give this a look !

Those motors and gears are notorious for failing.

Thanks for the input guys and sorry for the slow response, internet is hit and miss over here in the sand box (Iraq). I will tear the cluster apart and check the motor and gear. May do some upgrades while i'm in there, who knows!

Ok, quick question. If I replace the speedo assembly would it come with the new pieces I need? I’m thinking that or finding a speedometer shop but I am kind of scared of what that might cost. Any ideas?
