CJ7 Transmission Cover

I guess this is where this should go, if not feel free to move it. Been putting this off ever since I added the doubler and raised the drivetrain for better ground clearance. This is in my 76CJ7, specs in sig.

The original cover was rubbing on the top of the transmission and amplifying any gear noise to 10X louder than normal. I had originally just cut out as little as possible to make the trans fit and threw the shifter boot on top. The hole for the tcase shifters was really uncomfortable for any passengers in the summer with all the exhaust heat coming up.

Started with this.

Used an old road sign to make the new cover. Fits way better than the old one.

Still have a problem with the trans bring taller than the cover so I came up with an idea for a spacer and a way to hold the shift boot too.

Once I got it fit up right I welded it all up and cleaned up all the welds. Screwed the spacer to the alum cover from the back side.

Gives plenty of room to clear the transmission. Made a cover to hold the boot and also put in the boot for the doubler shifters which is from a ford ranger, just turned on its side with 3 new holes poked for the levers to come through. I had a fancy triple shifter boot but it wouldn't work with the way I wanted and seal up. Painted and installed.

Side by side next to stock cover. Looks and works way better.

Turned out pretty decent and should be much better than the old setup.
