eliminating the wing window on 82 chevy

i was just eye balling my truck today and noticed how similer the window frames are with a 93 chevy,n i am stripping the truck down for repaint now anyways so i was wondering if anyone has ever tried or seen this done. leaving out the wing window, putting the rubber channels in from a 93 chevy and putting a solid window in place? any help is much appreciated. i know i will miss my vent windows but they have been a hassle since day one. thanks guys.

to bad you dont have a Toyota. Because the the 2wd version have a single window. and that is what I did to my 4x4. picked up 2wd doors.
In my 1970 Nova. I had the quarter window and changes doors from a 73-74 nova. a Perfect match. It's hard to beleave that their isn't a chevy truck that had the single window that would fit your 82.

There is a kit specifically make for our trucks that eliminates the wing window and comes with everything you need including glass. It sells for around $650.00. You can find it on www.73-87Chevytrucks.com

I will be doing it for sure. My wings are rusted and are really stiff to operate. I'm not really a fan of altering the classic look, but I think that this would be a wise move, even for security purposes.

I'll be sure to post up pics when I do. Hopefully the OP will do it too. Not trying to jump his thread.

If your local glass shop will do it you can use 80s suburban quarters and cut them down.

You can't cut glass once it is tempered.

That's funny as I have seen someone score ones side of tempered, or at least what I thought was tempered glass, pour lighter fuid in the crack, light it, wipe it down and then score the other side.

The cut peice popped right off.

I guess it wasn't tempered, but it was definitly auto glass.

That was laminated glass. It's two pieces sandwiched together with an epoxy in between them. That is the same stuff that windshields are made out of.

Its made like that for the safety features because it won't shatter and fall to pieces when it breaks.

FYI: They used the lighter fluid to soften the epoxy in the middle enough so they could cut it easier with a razor.

Man, that all just sounds like so much extra work. The kit comes complete with everything. Why not replace what's old and needed and be done with it?

Seen this done on customs. Looks VERY nice with the lines cleaned up, and some aftermarket mirrors. Good luck.
