Question Gas gauge relocation idea?

Has anybody thought of trying to relocate their gas gauge to the clock spot on the left side of the dash? I am going to swap in a SM465 tranny and would like a tach. I have seen them on the dash and steering column but was wondering if i could possibly rig one to work in the oversized fuel gauge. Good idea or stick with an after market one?

What I'm doing is putting one of the small tachs in the clock spot, well actually mine doesn't have the clock, its just a blank, but its the same spot, I've already cut the trim and mounted it in, just need to put it back in the dash.

If that's what you want to do, find a factory cluster with the tach. They are kind of hard to find, but they do exist.

I was thinking that some did come with factory tachs, just can't remember ever seeing any, check out LMC, if anyone is gonna have one they probably will.

Heres the circuit panel for the tachometer cluster http://www.lmctruck.com/ICATALOG/CC/full.aspx?Page=48

Heres the small fuel gauge

I didn't see the tachometer, so if you can't find that at least you could get the fuel gauge moved and mount an aftermarket one in that hole.

That is a nice looking cluster but i dont have that kind of money to throw around.

I just ordered a LMC catalog so it will come in the next week i hope.

Once again, i want to thank everyone on this fourm. You guys always have great information on if it is possible and where i can find the stuff to get it done.

You might look at medium duty trucks of that era. I dont know if they used the same cluster as the light duty trucks, but I'm sure they probably do. They would probably be more likely to have the tach.

The axles i have that i am going to swap in were frow a 3/4 ton truck. It was a standard but it didnt have a tach either. There is a scrap place down the road i am going to keep checkin for a tach. if not i will just get an after market tach and order the smaller gas gauge from LMC.

No, not 3/4 or 1 ton, look in the dumptrucks.
