half top for my rig

straight edge rule, tape measure, chalk line, pencil, 1 sheetrock screw, hammer, speed square and a sawzall.

cut the back lower off first with 2x6 under it to stay off sheet metal.

then the upper back, the lower front, then finally the upper front.

i originally was gonna try to mate the rear section to the front, but the rear was not as wide.

after i mulled it over i decided to throw the rear section away. it easily broke into 3 pieces. i then cut the roof section into 4 strips. this way it would all easily fit into the ghetto dumpster for the apartments. (notice my helper rolling up while im taking pics)

the next thing io need to do is fix the wires so they wont short out

heres what phase 1 looks like. there is one bolt on each side holding it to the bed. its the original bolt location.

now i need to figure out how im gonna fill the holes and make it look a bit cleaner. i also still need to take a sanding disk to it to make the lines a bit straighter/cleaner.

I would use cardboard to make a template..and fiberglass. I would make the lip as wide as the section were the wires stick out. Rough up the outside and inside where the fiberglass will stick to. The cardboard template would be flush with the top and guessing from your pic about a 1.5" lip. It would make the ends more rigid leaving some kind of lip. As for doing to whole thing at one time...it may be kind of hard. or do sections at a time. The two corners from the bed to just passing that section where the wires stick out. Then the top middle part and be done. Sand paint and no one will ever know that a cardboard was used to help form the lip. You can go bigger on the lip and cut to your liking after it dries.
Just a thought...something I would do if I wanted to get ride of a cut edge like yours.

I'd leave it alone. If you're going to be wheeling, it will get torn up anyway.

lol. good point.
my plan is too use a sanding disk on a drill and sand the cut edges flat. then i need to fix the wires so they dont short. then maybe filling the holes on the upper part (Where the wires are) with some spray insulation foam then maybe use some bondo? ive never used fiberglass so im a bit intimidated. other than that ill want to paint the whole thang and call it good.

later down the road maybe put a "Z" channel on top to make a cover for the back. thats totally on the back burner.

if you can use bondo you can use fiberglass, plus it holds up much better. I would think the bondo would crack easily

today i went one step further and cut off the supports that go down behind the door onto the bedrail. i then attached an "eyelet" as a strap point. it basically is just a fiberglass roof that is held in place at the windshield (OEM bolts) and the two pull straps (which i might end up replacing with ratchet style straps. it looks alot better and moves with the windshield frame when the body flexes.
ill post pics as soon as i have them sent to me.
