vehicle modification legality?

Thinking about narrowing the front end on my chevy and dovetailing the bed. What are the laws against this? This thing has to stay street legal but I want a better approach area.
thanks,
chris

I'm a little rusty with my traffic laws, but I'm pretty sure Texas doesn't have a law prohibiting it.

i would think as long has it still has headlights and taillights and they are within the legal height then you should be ok. but im not 100% on that.

Also, alot of folks are of the opinion that you need mudflaps if your tires hang out of your fenders, but the way the law reads(or did read) mudflaps are only required on the rear if it is a dually.

I'm planning to do mine as well, but I'm going to speak to the guy who does my inspections first.

X2

texas doesnt have that mudflap rule like alot of the other states on the tires outside the fenders, other than a dually like you said. buts its been awhile since ive read up on all the laws on trucks and the mods on the street.

The guy that inspects mines never has told me anything. Juno, mason, marble falls,CC are places I've driven to without any problems.

Front headlights cannot exceed 66 inches, ground to center of light

Tail lights cannot exceed 72 inches, ground to center of light

Vehicle track width cannot exceed 80" without mudflaps.

All necessary safety operating equipment must be on the vehicle that qualifies for inspection.

No front lift blocks.

That's it for Texas. If you need the code, I have it saved as a PDF. I have posted it here on the board before.

NO. There is NO tire extending from the fender rules. The only rule concerning tires is if you exceed 80" width, outer edge to outer edge. If you do you would require mud flaps. That's it.

Never had anyone say anything with my Dodge and the tires were around 86".

Curious to see the pdf as well. Would be good for all of us to be familiar with it.
