VIN tags

So I went to get an inspection on my truck today and the guy says that he can't find my VIN anywhere on the truck and must see it before he can pass me...

I've had 4 of the mid-70s model fords and they're usually mounted to the dash on the driver's side but this rig doesn't have anything there. Nothing on the door jambs either...anyone have any ideas? I need to get the damn VIN plate for this truck somehow.

Has the Dash pad been replaced? Maybe it's covering it up?

Dash pad hasn't been replaced but it's obvious that the interior of the truck has been repainted...I'm thinking the tag was taken off for the paintjob and not put back on. I contacted the guy I bought the truck from and he didn't even realize it wasn't there...I trust the guy and don't think he sold me a bogus/stolen/hacked truck. He's gonna check with VA's DMV and see what can be done.

In the meantime, I sent an email off to martiauto.com to see if I can get a replacement VIN tag *crosses fingers*

Well the guy I bought the truck from contacted his DMV and they told him that I could go ahead and put the truck in my name and then let the folks know I need a new VIN - I guess I get a whole new number...

Final update: I had to go to the city impound lot and have a detective look over my truck with a fine tooth comb until he found some evidence of the original VIN. After about an hour and a half he found it on the frame and signed my 68A form. After that ordeal, I had to drive the truck over to TxDoT clear on the other side of Dallas (all the while hoping no cop pulled me over from not having plates nor any tags) and submit proof of ownership (which I don't have yet because I couldn't get an inspection because of my VIN and w/o my VIN or inspection they wouldn't issue me a title) in the form of a bill of sale and title application. I also had to have my 68A form notarized and LUCKILY, there was an insurance place right next door that had a woman who was a notary ($6). At that point, they charged me a whopping $2 and the lady had to physically see my truck and place the VIN tag on my door jamb for me.

Moral of the story: Don't ever buy a truck w/o a visible VIN or lose your existing one if you plan to do restoration work. What a hassle. On the flip side, it only cost me $8 to get er done :P

That's good to know. Thanks.
The second half of my extended cab still has the vin plate on it. I'm going to remove it just incase a police looks inside and notice two vin plates.

Where's your other VIN located? Two different VINs?
