XJ Chop

Hey guys...have an 87 XJ and am thinking of chopping the back, right behind the back doors and under the rear windows. My question is: is it going to structurally weaken the entire body, or just the back? I plan on adding a cage, when time permits. Do you think I need to wait and do it all at one time? Im not going to move the rear hatch foreward, like some do. Just going to leave it open, as it is strictly for offroad anyway. But I dont want the rest to crumble if I dont add the cage right away. Just looking for some tips!

Re: XJ Chop

Is it a 2 door or 4 door. I did this to a 4door xj and we wheeled it like that until we bombed the tranny
I think a 2 door may not have enough roof left to keep it as riged

Re: XJ Chop

We chopped ours and wheeled it like that but not much rocks and frame twisting more beach and mud bogs
