Aaaaaaaand, in this corner.....

"Standing 6 feet tall, and weighing in at 210 pounds...."

Eh, who cares about that anyways?? Name's J.B., and I guess I'm one of the new guys around here. Live in Killeen (yup, you guessed it, I'm in the Army after 8 years in the Marines). Bought me a '76 Chevy, which I've christened "T2DH" (The 2 Dollar Hooker), because that's exactly what I plan on beating it like. It's a work in progress, so it's not the best looking, nor the toughest rig out there, but I think she's gonna be a lot of fun. On to the pictures.

The way she started:

Where she sits now (pretty much):

Hope to see y'all out on the trails.

I love my stepside.

We have been contemplating how to build a cage for the rear that will keep the stepside styling while still allowing for a small bench seat, fuel cell and tools.

As straight as that old girl is it would be BLASPHEMY to chop her up. Must be that new .gov training.

Just razzin you. Thank you for your service.

But seriously there are not many of those old flare tail girls left. Take inspiration from this thread and don't treat her like a "port O call" girl. http://www.texas4x4.org/showthread.php?t=30024

Just be for warned when you do get out on the trail someone might "gunners call" you. So be prepared with the proper amount of booze.

Wow.....I should have come back sooner. To the replies:

@72Blazer: Yessir, I am. I don't think it'll be as narrow as I made it with the tape.

@AwesomeBill: Thanks.

@Bigger: I certainly hope so. Got big plans for her.....eventually.

@Silver Girl: Thanks.

@MuddinManny: I've actually met GySgt Ermey. GREAT people.

@mnmstoy: Nope. Stepside's been gone for 6 months. I figured that I'd rather sell a (pretty much) straight and rust-free bed (minus floor, more on that in a bit), than beat the pretty out of it in the rocks. I couldn't do that to that poor stepside. I did keep the 1/4" 6061 aluminum diamond plate that was acting as a floor, though. That's gonna wind up being my bed until I back-half it.

@Mitch: Thanks. Happy to be here. Coincidentally, Mitch is my father in law's name.

@projectfreedom: Ready for the laundry list??

As it sits now, the bed is gone. I have to get the plate cut and put together for the "new bed". I relocated the tank to behind the cab, and "Miller Locked" the 10-bolt. She's on 37" MT/R's, and the fenders have had a little......massaging with a 3 lb. sledgehammer. I'm just trying to get her to where I can wheel her for now.....until March, which is when I deploy, and she leaves her cocoon and turns into a beautiful butterfly.

Plans for "during deployment" build: Tons. D60 front, 14BFF rear. Lockers and 5.38's, I'm debating going ahead and doing chromos, but that's an additional $2000. Back-half it, build a platform, and four-link it. 16" shocks from Ballistic Fabrication with 7" up-travel, 9" of down-travel. Full interior cage. Boatsides. Narrow the nose, and run the tube from the cage to the front, to the front stinger, to hang the fenders off of, and to surround/protect the radiator and 9,000 lb. winch. Ditch the 750 Edelbrock, and run propane. Depending on what I have left, I'm debating going up to 42" Pitbull Rockers. (*whew*)

@tclowrance: ^^^^. It's going to happen.

@HAWKINSTXN: Thanks.

@51JeepWillys: Thanks, and I might mention that I have a soft spot for Willys Jeeps. First vehicle I ever went off-road in was a (I want to say, I know I'm probably wrong with something in this, but forgive me, it's been 20+ years) 51 CJ-3B.

@MUDDSLINGER: Bed's been gone for 6 months, sorry.

@River Rat: Thanks. I appreciate it.

@Dragoon: Nice rig yourself. It's even the same color as mine is (but mine will be painted orange eventually)

@Militia_CJ: 'Preciate it.

@snick: What I'm not showing you is the rust. Yeah, she passes the distance test, and yeah, if it weren't for the rust, the panels would be straight......but there's a lot more than meets the eye about T2DH. Trust me, with my love for old Chevys ('specially the '73-'87 variants), if this was a 2WD step and saveable....she'd be on her way. When I bought her, I was looking for a "truggy" project, and the price was right on her.

Thanks for the warm welcome, y'all.....and if any of y'all are in the Hidden Falls area next Saturday, wave hey at me.....I'm going out for my shakedown run (hopefully).

My last name is Mitchell, but after 13 years in the Corps, I go by Mitch.

Wish I could wheel with ya at Hidden Falls, it's a nice place.
