Another FNG!

Just bought me another burb, 3/4 ton 4x4 this time. it's my first endeavor into 4x4's, so y'all be gentle. Been into hotrods, trucks mostly, all my life. So the basic mechanics are not a problem for me. But y'all should fully expect me to show my ignorance on the 4x4 related stuff on a regular basis.

Wanted, found, and bought an '85 model (so I can trash all of the emissions stuff). It's gonna be set-up with a 350/th400/208 (til i break the 20. Going through the drivetrain now. Keeping the 350 pretty mild; 9.5;1cr, .470lift cam, you get the idea. Toughening up the th400 a good bit, and just gonna pound on the 208 til it breaks then get into a 205 (from what I understand the 205 is much stouter). Looking at about a 4-6"lift w/36x12.5 tires.

Not trying to build the biggest or baddest of anything right now, just looking for something to suit my hunting and fishing needs, as well as being capable of hauling the wife and 3yr old kid around for some camping, trail riding and such.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to gaining much needed info here, contributing where I can, as well as meeting some of y'all at a run or two in the not so distant future. Mine is a ways off from being done at this point. But I am in the "parts amassing" phase of this deal. And once that's close to complete, experience has taught me that the fun of building, breaking, and rebuilding begins.

Here's a few pics of her when she came home. No point in posting pics of present condition, as the front clip is off, drive-train is out, all the normal stuff we start out doing.

Yes, that is a Grant GT wheel on my mower. LOL

And a blurry pic of my helper,

Jay

LOL, she's in training right now. She really likes getting dirty and misplacing stuff. But I think we all started in about the same place. She loves "helping" daddy though, and daddy loves that!

On the 208, I've been told I'm gonna tear it up quick by some, and that it'll hold up by others. So my view at this point is, I'll treat it no different than I would anything else and see how long it lasts. I'm not looking to be getting god-aweful extreme with this set-up. Actually hoping the whole 4x4 thing can turn into a good family activity. Hoping to meet some good people, go to outings, ride some trails, maybe get the wife hooked enough that she'll wannna drive the burb enough so I can justify building or buying me something a little more capable to get as serious as I like to get about things. Type "A" compulsive personality here, all or nothing is my general approach to life!

Howdy

I may have to rethink this kid thing if they are bad at misplacing tools. There are enough grown family members around my place that do a good enough job of it and don't need any help from any tricycle motors.....

Just make a good skid plate to cover that 208 and you should be ok for what you have planned. The cast aluminum housing on them do not like hard knocks.

I second that. I still have a 208 in mine and I beat the crap out of it. A skid plate will help keep it off the bumps and alive.
