TEXAS MUDBUS just gettin started
Back home and building

I got back home from Iraq in August and am slowly getting back to building my Suburban. Some good parts are coming my way and I've been trading this for that with friends and other wheelers when I got introduced to this website. I'm also on Tx4wd under the same name.

Right now, it's an '89 GMC Suburban with
stock 350 - 383 is in the shop being built
700R4 - TH400 awaiting transplant from van DD
NP231 - NP241 in garage, looking to find driver drop NP205
GM 14 bolt rear w/ 3.73 and posi - future upgrades to 5.38 and detroit locker
10 bolt front - Dana 60 waiting in garage
35" BFG ATs - future upgrades to 44" Boggers
current 4" lift - future mod 8" lift w/ plenty of bodytrimming

I've ripped the interior bits out in prep for a bedliner coating inside and out, but after I get a homemade cage in it. There's also a custom roof rack from a previous owner, and fishing pole rack inside, but those will be tossed hopefully before, but definitely after it gets rolled. (disaster anticipation). Currently, the MUDBUS is out of commission but I expect it rolling on it's own in a few weeks with the new motor.

I also own several motorcycles, and love dirtbikes but don't have enough. More riding buddies are always welcome, so show your two-wheeled love as well!

Welcome home and thx for your service ..... Sounds like a great build but why swap out a 700r4 for th400 ??? The 700 has a lower first gear or is it just a strenth thing???

It's definitely a strength issue. The 383 is only going in because the current 350 went swimming. The eventual powerplant will be a beefy Merlin 572. Plus, I'd like to have the 700R4 in my van so it'll get slightly better mpg.

Nice burb bro. Reminds me of mine. Is that rack bought or made? I've been looking for one for mine. Here's a pic of mine.

Homemade from the previous owner. Brackets were bolted, gasketted, and siliconed shut for weatherproofing (it works really well), and the rack is angle iron and steel rods.
