Hey! My name is Harry, I'm 46 married with a 6 year old son. I'm an electronic technician for a wireless company. I've had a truck most of my life and it was a 4x4 a bunch of those years. Wheeling was always just a tool to get me to another hobby. I windsurf, mountain bike, fish, camp and backcountry backpack.

I always try to keep my wife in a new vehicle so my last truck has aged. My daily driver is a company F150 4x4 so my stock 1988 Chevy k2500, 350, auto with 78,000 miles is slowly dying from "driveway miles". We can't afford 2 car payments and the Wife didn't want to drive a truck so we came to an agreement. We will get a jeep as her daily driver, then when its time for her new car the jeep moves over to my toy pile. While it is her car I am to leave it stock. We picked up a Rubicon Unlimited and I have fallen in love with that Jeep. The turn radius, quick response, no top, those 4.1 Dana 44s with lockers has been fun, really fun. I have been bitten with the bug. I really don't want to beat up the new jeep right now so I am glad she "owns" the Rubicon right now. BUT...

Now I want to build a trail rig (got to have a better 4x4 than my wife does), street legal, but trail. I have thought about building up my Chevy but it has that IFS to start. So I am thinking about either a Jeep, Toyota even been checking out a few old Willis. Then I jump back to full size, an old blazer, SWB Truck. Then I tell myself if you’re going to go full size just rebuild the 88 in the drive. Don't know where I'm going but I am looking for the right starting point.

Well, I'm a Chevy guy in a Jeep body. I am surprised all the truck guys haven't jumped on this one already. They would tell you to probably put the 88 on some jack stands. Then off with the bed, shorten the frame, exocage the cab, pull the IFS and install a Dana/60. For starters. Your 88 would be a great place to start.
Have fun, you're in a good area. Those guys around there can help you rebuild anything.

I would have to agree with OLE MAN--the 88 is a good platform.
