Horitexan just gettin started
New Austin/Sabinal member

Hey there y'all!

I just joined the forum after looking for some place to get some help/advice with my '75 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser and with (hopefully) the new 4x4 Pickup I'm about to buy! I'm a tattoo artist and I own Body Adorned Tattoo & Piercing in Austin. I'm a big hunter/bowhunter and spend a lot of time in Sabinal, TX where I'm working on opening a second tattoo studio. The 4-wheeling I do is on my buddy's 13,000 acre cattle/hunting ranch in Sabinal, TX (60 miles west of San Antonio near Uvalde). My friends in Sabinal got together and got me the '75 Land Cruiser for my bithday last summer- cool gift huh? It drove, when i go it, but that's about all it did. It was a ranch vehicle that had been parked for years and was in pretty rough shape; but it was a great project car. in the last 9 months I've rebuilt the brakes, installed a high performance (DUI) distributer and Livewire plug wires, converted back to a stock (newly rebuilt) carburetor from a 2BBL Rochester, replaced the shocks and steering stabilizer with Ranchos, converted the OEM sealed beam headlights to Hella Halogen, added Hella 500 offroad lights and gotten all of the lights working except for the rear turn signals and back-up lights. once I figure out what's going on with the rear turn signals (most likely bad wires) and back-up lights i'll be street legal and ready to register her! The PO said it couldn't be made street leagal! HA!

I'm in final negotiations with both Ford and Dodge for either a 2006 Ford F150 FX4 Extended Cab OR a Dodge 1500 4X4 Quadcab. I'm waiting to see if Dodge can find me a truck that's as nice as the FX4 that Ford is offering me and that beats the financing deal I have set with Ford.

My immediate concern, and what got me here, is the wheels/tires on the FX4. The particular truck that Ford is holding for me comes with 20" rims with OWL A/T tires on it- something I'm not particularly happy about. This truck is more for utilitarian (daily driver, ranch work, hunting and occaisional off-roading) use- not for looks. The 20" wheels are so damn expensive to outfit with rubber and I'd like to get a set of tires that's a bit more aggressive right out of the box! The dealership won't make the swap part of the deal so I will either be looking for a relatively inexpensive set of new/slightly used tires OR (as the dealer suggested) looking for someone who wants to swap the new 20s and tires for a more practical 18" sett-up. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me out!

Plus, as I'm trying to decide (over this weekend) on which truck to buy, I'm hoping to get some advice from some people that are more familiar with the two trucks I have to choose from.

Enough of a life story! Glad to be here. Contact me any time if there's anything I can help [I]y'all [I] with!

Jeeps are for girls
And guys that wish they were girls.....

Automatic transmissions are gay.

Flipped up tow mirrors are the sagging pants of the truck world.
