New from the hill country

Hello everyone. I am new to the group and just wanted to introduce myself. I hope to make the run to Mason in the summer. I am just woundering if my work in progress might be to big. 1994 F-150 extended cab, solid axle swap dana 44, 8.8 rear, 16" lift, tow hooks at both ends, and 35x12.5x15. I know the tires are a little small but lots of tread left and haven't found a good deal on anything bigger. I am also going to go with a recentered hummer wheel anyone used any of these or know where i can get a set of hummer rims? I am glad to be a new member and hope to make some runs with you all.

Automatic transmissions are gay.

Flipped up tow mirrors are the sagging pants of the truck world.

Cool Welcome to the board, along with an opinion on everything

Welcome to the board.....Nice to see that body style F150 getting wheeled. That body style (esp the ext cabs) have always been one of my favorites

In reference to your question about the truck being too big.......IMHO, I'd say so, esp if you're planning on keeping the D44/8.8 axles. The D44 should survive 35's okay, if you're easy on the skinny pedal. If you're heavy on the skinny pedal, the D44 is prone to snapping axle shafts. Locking the axle will amplify the problem even more, esp. if you run it anywhere other than soupy mud. I don't know much about the 8.8, but I would imagine that its going to be the same way. IMHO, if I wanted to stick with the D44/8.8 combo, I'd drop the lift down to 5-6" total, and wheel the s%^$ out of it on the 35's.

Don't take that to mean you can't put bigger tires on the truck, but with 16" of lift, you're looking at 47's or 52's just to get the truck looking right. Running tires that big just about obligates you to D60's or rockwells, or plan on spending 90% of every trip with snapped axle shafts, twisted axle tubes or who knows. The carnage possibilites are just about limitless. Granted, carnage is cool, but nobody wants to be the guy that heads to the trail and snaps an axle shaft on the first rock of every trip.......Been there, done that, it sucks BIG TIME

Watch the skinny pedal, its evil. It loves to break things and leave you walking......
