New From Stephenville

Hello All,

Came across this site looking for places close to home to go wheel. I'd like to find a group close to home to run with. Here is my piece. It's a confused, XJ/CJ thingy; Stretched CJ with XJ ridin' on top, d44's, 38's, 304/TF/D300, yada, yada.

You buy that rig from Scott? That is a good rig. I rode in it about 2 years ago. Where is Stephenville? There is group going to BMRA this coming weekend. New Year weekend.

Haha....yep we did some trading and and a little cash. It needed ALOT of love when I got it but it is getting better. In the last few months I have rebuilt engine and tranny mounts, reinforced the exo(still need to do more for safety, added spare tire mount, balljoints, bushings, hiems, and lowered it 3 inches over all which required rebuilding front shackle setup(what a wreck), cutting rear springs and relocating all the shocks. It works alot better now and it does not rattle your teeth out and shake like jack hammer at 10mph. But, I gotta say even like it was it would climb like a billy goat. Now it flexes alot better and is more stable. It will do more than I have the nerve to do without some help.

Stephenville is 60 miles southwest of Ft. Worth. I'd like to go over there, but I just have too much going on to drive that far. I'd be 8 hours just travel time.

Well, I am Waxahachie. I moved up here in August from the Beaumont area. I am about 2 1/2 hours from Gilmer. You shouldn't be over 3 1/2 hours. Do you have a trailer to haul it on? I have never been to Tolar. I will need to try it out.
Your CJ/XJ was originally built by Justin Folkers. I remember when it was a CJ. Enjoy!

Ole Man, we will have to got to Tolar. I went out there once for a shake down after lowering, but was the only rig on the trails on a Sunday. I did not know where some of the obstacle on the cut trails are and the trenches are pretty narly, probably would call them 5, with big loose rocks and no one has been through them. It would be very easy to dislodge a 2000-5000lb rock and be in a pinch so recovery help and spotter would be good. I think once some folks go through them and things settle a little bit it will be great. Right now it is like a never ending rock garden, but there are no defined trails on the big stuff. If you have contact information for Justin I would love to talk to him so I can find out some of the details on parts used for some stuff. Most is clear enough, but some things I am not sure on.

Here are a few. Everything is before reworking the suspension a bit and lowering except the one side shot you can tell it sits lower. Future plans are more exo rework and lowering the body and exo on the frame about an inch or just a little over. When I do that I will build better rock sliders do a 1/2 comp cut in the back. I also have 15" rear shocks when I get around to building towers.

Its about 40 miles from Ft. Worth on 377S. It is a new park, but has alot of potential. It is still a working rock quary, but there is alot of old dig stuff that you can get into. There is a DFW group that seems to be running it. I think they are out there most Saturdays.

Yeah. It is 30 miles from my house, so what I would burn up in fuel going somewhere else is worth the extra to me. However, I was looking around at some other places down South that are even more....like $50/day.

I like Bridgeport, and it's close to me.

The top picture is from out at Tolar. That is what most the trails look like, but there is a huge amount of rock pit area I dont have any pics on. I have been to Bridgeport once in my buddys rig. Its not too far for me either.

Yeah, it is one butt-uggggly rig. But, I remember that it rides smooth and crawls and climbs really good.
