Newb from De Leon

what up guys? im chris,20 yrs old from De Leon,Tx. well i got a funny story..somehow i gained ALOT of intrest in 4x4's and and rock crawlers..funny part is that im a minitrucker that has a bagged and bodydropped 93 silverado haha. i decided i wanted to turn an old buggy i had sittin in the backyard into somethin i could take to some trails and play around. its a 80's style buggy that came with a WV drivetrain but im throwin that out for a GM4.3 TBI v6 with auto trans. im still undecided on which T-case,axles and trype of suspension i wanna run..any suggestions?

Welcome to the board.

Is your buggy rear engine or front engine? How big or small is your budget, that will determine a lot? A set of yota axles and t-cases are pretty reasonable and the upgrades are reasonable as well. With the right parts you can run 37-40" tires with that combo, your 4.3 will have plenty of power to turn them.

it is rear engine, but only currently has the wv trans in it. i wouldnt say my budget is tight, but im not lookin to build anything really badass($$$) lol, just something to take to the family land and have some fun in the creeks, and small trails. what kind of yota axles should i look for? i have a rear out of a 75 toy,its not a heavy duty or nothing though. what years should i look for for the axles and case? also, say i do go with a toy case, will that work with my gm v6? i will get a pic of the buggy off my phone and put it on here in a minute.

Front solid axle 79-85
Rear from 86-95 IFS truck/4runner. This rear end is 3" wider then the 79-85 rear ends.
Now keeping it cheap and the best gears...I would have to go with a 1980 Toyota with 4.37 gears.
Or maybe 81-85 with 4.10 gears sense they are more common.
for Tcases....look for top shift.
Or if your Tranny(toyota) has a forward shift...then you would only need one Top shift t-cases for dual cases.
Mike

If length may be a issue. 81-83 L50 or L52 (5speed) may be the ticket. The L52 is the strongest of all the L series transmission.
and are shorten then the rest of the W/G series. Or if your looking for a 4 speed the their is L43/45 in the family.

as for third members (Diff chunk) 8" Toyota members are interchangeable between front and rear.
86-95 IFS front diffs (7.5") are not interchangeable with the 8"

well i have a gmv6 and tranny to match that..is there any way i can mount a toy t case to it?? i most likely will not need dual cases..

Welcome,

Sunray engineering put on a few rock crawls in De Leon a few years back that I went to and was wondering if they still host them. That place out there rocked.
