![]() myself and a good friend just went half on an '88 suburban all electric everything works and there is only damage on the passenger side.(previous owner sideswiped a parking poll) the paint is in great shape but it needs a clay-bar and buff.... only things wrong with it so far. cruise control, horn, and the rear window had a switch that was going out but i fixed that today. now i need to fix the cruise and horn. the ac worked until i disconnected it yesterday (disconnected and removed the rear a/c) when i did that i knowingly undid the freon charge to the entire system. but i have other plans for the rear ac... um needless to say we have loads of plans for it
we started on it yesterday by removing the headliner and rear carpet and the previously mentioned a/c. we are going to put a bed-liner on the rear portion of the the truck starting behind the 2nd row seats.... well I really don't feel like typing any more so ill update you guys when there are updates... here is a link to the photo bucket with all of the pix http://s292.photobucket.com/albums/m...88%20suburban/ Last edited by tazjetman; 12-17-2010 at 04:55 PM.. First, be easy on this one!
![]() Yeah he wants to do a 4x4 conversion. I suggested a B52 and a shackle flip from diy4x for ease. Good Luck Mason!

ok well i've started working on the truck. doing tons of maintenance but i'm still not done.. i've done plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, new battery, inline fuel filter, oil &oil filter, cleaned out the vacuum lines with good 'ole seafoam (cleaned it out good) also cleaned out the "carb" with a whole can of carb cleaner. i bought a grease gun but haven't had a chance to use it yet. i bleed the crap out of the brakes but im going to do it again. after all of that my truck still shudders and idles like crap (reving up and down to the point to where it dies or at least shudders) i dont know what else i can do other than redo the vacuum line with new ones or somehow rebuild the carb or a new fuel pump? idk whats going on but the truck sure dosent like WOT at low RPMs. it runs a ton better with all of the work ive done to it but still not a 100%. any ideas of help?

Replace the vacuum lines first. Make sure to check the one line that runs down to the Vacuum modulator on the transmission.

i also stripped the paint in the "bed" for the bed liner and actually laid down 4 coats of the "roll on" stuff but it wasn't black like it was advertised, but more like tinted clear... which showed the metal right through it even after 4 coats so i went back to the store and bought the same brand bed-liner but in the spray can version.which IS black... so we put a coat down on top of the other stuff and after a few days i checked it and it was a little bubbly and so i took a screw driver to it to see how well it cured to the metal and it was good but not great and it wasn't nearly as thick as i want. so now im going to rip it up and redo it but with a different technique. i haven't chosen which technique im going to use but im going to do some more research before i decide what to do. as always any input is appreciated.
also i have been dieing to take a buffer and claybar to the truck since i got it but i decided it was too much of a task for me to do esp with the condition of the paint... it needed a lot of love... so i went a found a place to claybar, buff and compound wax the entire truck for 250... so i took it! and it came out GREAT! it brought back the orignal shine! its amazing! ive had a couple of people ask where i got it painted! haha ill post pix soon! |

a note to add about the idle is it doesn't always idle like crap and it doesn't ever start up on the first turn of the key... it takes at least 2 turns and then it starts on the second try with a pump of the gas. sometimes after a 20 min or more drive(when it is up to normal temp) and you turn it off then try to start it back up with in 10 mins it just refuses to start with out some starter fluid and even then it still barely starts... i need some help! does anyone have a link for a vacuum line replacement kit? i need to replace all of them...

Welcome to tx4x4, nice burb and great plans but do us all a favor and dont intall hid headlights unless you do it correctly and get the proper projected lens to match. you can not just put a hid bulb in a regular lens as it will blind oncoming traffic. oh and that sucks about the bedliner not being black, I would have been pissed!
