"Two Ten total N00B" finding a new subculture...

Greetings and salutations from San Antonio!

I was being careful to not allow the gas pump to lock into 'automatic' mode at an HEB one evening when I ran into the owner of a nice Jeep that looked completely out-of-place sitting on asphalt. We talked for a good while, and he mentioned this site, and luckily I was able to text the link and his username to my email from this crap phone I'm stuck with right now.

It's been a few weeks, but I finally made it back to post something...

As my signature says, I'm pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to the off-road scene, but this new toy of mine has been the impetus behind my new-found appreciation and study of these marvelous machines.

Shortly after my visit to the gas station, I took a trip to Port Aransas in it - loaded down with half a bed of firewood (logs 4-16" diameter) - we had the biggest fire out there, for sure! After driving this thing down there, I can safely say I will NEVER go camping in anything else again. You simply cannot appreciate the sheer SPACE afforded by this vehicle until you camp in one! My friends couldn't even set up their tent on the beach (and it was a nice one, too!) ...an hour into trying, they finally gave up, used the tent as a tarp, and slept the first night outside (and promptly headed back home Friday morning!)

Me? I didn't go home until the following Tuesday... I completely love the ability to successfully set up camp by moving your arm 15 degrees and shifting into 'PARK.' Congratulations - your steel tent is ready! Twin-size air mattress, Kenkopad on top, and a sheet, and STILL room for totes, coolers, crates, and (of course) !

Best vacation ever.

Oh, and thanks again, Fermelgcan, for the can of Chemtool - I'm almost 1/2 done with running two cans through that 40gal hollow leg of an open mouth beast right now... Replaced the plugs this morning with the proper ones (45RT) instead of the cooler-running 43's they had stuck in this thing.

With any luck, by this time tomorrow, it'll be sitting on 38.5" Boggers.

Thanks, all! More pics to follow - I'd post them now, but every minute I spend on here now is one taken away from getting those Boggers put on...

In about an hour from now...

In about two hours from now...

If I don't reply again for a few days, rest assured I'm probably taking out a loan to buy more gas to get me through the weekend!

Thanks again for all the compliments - it's been a real blast working on this tank, and as everyone here knows (and have said) - yes, this is just the beginning.

Hit a small bump in the road, though, if y'all will excuse the pun.

Original plan was to loan my friend money to buy a set of 44's for either his ride, or a project K5 we're working on, and I'd buy his Boggers off of him - but as with some deals that seem too good to be true, this one was - those tires were a far cry from how we were hoping them to be - so, no Boggers for me just yet.

Our project truck is an '87 K5 Blazer, 12" suspension lift and 44" Dick Cepek "Fun Country" tires - only problem, only three of those tires are good - and in great shape, I might add...

I started a thread in the "Wanted to buy" forum - need another 44" tire to get this beast off the golf cart sedan wheels it's sitting on right now...

Any leads are greatly appreciated!

In the air at last!

...OK, to be real, finally got the Boggers shortly after my last post... Been enjoying them ever since, though - and, as such, was nowhere near a computer.

Here's a new pic of it next to my Rodeo (look for the little Mazda wheels somewhere behind the beast.)

Took it to a friend's ranch over the weekend and climbed up to the summit... Hell of a view. Oh, and nevermind that pedestrians think they missed the air raid siren when they hear me coming a mile away...

It is kinda hard to keep these things clean, isn't it?

After this rain storm tonight, I lost a few branches, feel like tying the tow strap to the damn trunk and plucking that damn tree from the earth like a child picking flowers.

Oh, and then there's the matching boot and handprint streaks that travel down the side back window from my drunken buddy whom decided 'tailgating it' wasn't high enough, and proceeded to climb up onto the roof to survey the land... Only to take an eight foot free fall onto the rocky hillside a minute or so later...

He dislocated his shoulder (went around the next day walking like Igor) and broke a toe. There's always some fun/drama associated with these things, isn't there?

nice burb. I got an '83 burban. The insanity to own a rig is one thing but to own a burban is legally nut house material. I have owned 80's model subs since I was 17 and haven't looked back. Best thing you'll ever hear a jeep owner say: "bet your burb can't do that" vroom vroom crunch crunch then let the middle finger fly.

Thanks, y'all!

After a trip to D'Hanis to hunt hogs (I think this thing scared them all away,) I ran into a slight fuel problem... The engine would cough and sputter itself dead a couple of times. Luckily, I made it back into the driveway, and there it sat for a few weeks.

Changed out the fuel filter from the electronic pump, didn't help. Pump was working, but the new clear-view filter housing was dry as a bone. It was getting dark, and I'd all but packed up my tools in disgust when I said, "F-it. Gotta try something."

Rolled the air compressor out, took the fuel cap off, and opened the line going to the pump. Shot a stream of air through the line, into the tank, with very little resistance. Hooked it back up, turned the key, got underneath it, STILL dry as a bone.

I think I was too disappointed at that point to even cuss.

Again, ready to pack up and hang my head in shame - then I thought I'd go for broke and try the same thing, but blow through the pump and towards the engine.

ppppfpff...PUUUTUUUNMP... then... PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF... *NO resistance!* I cracked a smile.

Went up and turned the pump on again, and voila! The filter was full of gas! Turned the key, and on the second attempt, we have ignition!

Whatever the heck was clogging the line was between the filter and the engine... and whatever it was got blown straight out the tailpipe (after fouling a couple plugs.) Two bottles of Techron Concentrate, some fresh gas, and engine braking down a hill in first gear later, and she sounds better than ever!

*knocks on wood*

Are you carb'd or EFI? If carb'd check your fuel bowls what ever was plugging the line might be settled in the bottom of the fuel bowls. If EFI disregard.

I have TBI on my buggy and last Nov. it was stalling out due to crud in the lines. The rubber on the inside of the fuel line was breaking down and coming apart due to the ethanol crap that is in fuel now. I could pop the line off any of the filters I have in the line and pull out strands that looked like spaghetti.
