Moab and Colorado depart DFW 6/21/07

3-4 week trip. Join my girlfriend Damie and me for all or part.

Depart DFW June 21 (or 22) very very early (5am?), head to Moab via Albuquerque, drive as far as we can get on Thursday, on to Moab Friday and set up in the RV park.

Moab for a week+ (catch two weekends).

Move over to Colorado. Pick a spot to base from, do some trails, move to next area, do some trails, etc.

Last trail in Colorado will be Blanca Peak.
http://www.mhjcontherocks.com/Community/Trips/1186.aspx
RV in Blanca, CO, arriving July 13 or mid-morning July 14. Drive to Como Lake near the top of Blanca Peak July 14, pitch a tent, come back down July 15 (Sunday). Note: if we're having too much fun on other trails in Colorado, this could be moved to the weekend of July 21. Many of the trails in Colorado will be very doable in a near-stock 4x4 (breathtaking scenery). A stock 4x4 CANNOT make it to the top (Como Lake).

Last stop will be two trails (two days Monday Tuesday) in Red River, NM. These trails are (AFAIK) stock 4x4 friendly.

Return to DFW July 18 or July 25.

I expect to have internet access a lot of the time, so anyone can decide at the last minute to join up and shoot me an email so you can find us. This trip is almost carved in stone...it WILL happen The exact itinerary may float a bit, but we're going!

Moab is first to allow a little more time for snow to melt in Colorado. Yes, it's a safe bet we will find a fair amount of snow in some of the really high passes (13k feet+).

Silverton and Blanca RV spots are reserved. I'll get Sailida today.

I think this trip may actually happen this year.

Salida reservation done!

Six weeks plus one day and we're on the road to Colorado. I sure hope we don't encounter snow too deep in the high passes on the trails.

That is a trip of a lifetime that I will never see. I don't know what I would do if I had 3 or 4 weeks off at once.

Moab or Colorado is worth it if you can get a week with both weekends.
