thinking about moving to amarillo to pursue advancing with my job and to get closer to home. i am originally from shamrock and my parents are wanting me to get back closer to home to help take care of them as they grow older. also, i am wanting to move up in my job (post office) and they are needing supervisors in amarillo. my goal is to get a small office and be postmaster. so small that it is basically a 1 man operation.
my youngest daughter is contemplating going into the dental hygeinist field and i know at one time, amarillo college had an excellent program. the oldest is thinking of engineering but has no concrete plans as of yet.
nothing real yet, just trying to get things started.
i have already had 2 people tell me not to drink the water chrfal

People from Kermit like goats not Amarillo...sheesh 2finger

The cost of living is cheap, crime rate is low and the wheeling is great. I would also think a house with some land is the better way to go. (wish i would have done this).

Move! It will be fun. Buy a house in the country and drink well water! If you getting a pay raise then why not!

Texas Tech has a great medical school here in Amarillo. Not sure if they have a dental hygienist degree though.

It would seem you are doing more then thinking. If you have so many plans that will benefit you and your family, what are you waiting for. Good Luck and hope things work out better for you. Where are you going to put all your rigs?

what about all the sh!t you have to move out of your shop? and all those trucks you got in the backyard....move if it betters the family and makes you happybigok
a place with some land and a shop is definitely what i will be looking for. i have to have somewhere to park the fleet (about 30) depending on what i am able to get rid of. i want to keep about 10 vehicles all together and get rid of the rest as well as some/most of my extra parts.

If you have a job waiting for you, great! If not, don't expect to find one..
i work for the postal service and just about every podunk town has a post office. i have transferred 4 times already. this is a step up into management; for better or worse; but my plan is once i prove myself doing that, i should be able to bid into a small post office pretty easily. then just do my job until i retire.

Go ahead and move Jeff. You will just add more to the best location on this web despite what the shiat talkers say. Let me know when you are ready and I will drag a trailer down there and help.:toast:popcornn
thanks gooch; i will probably be hitting you up on that bigok

Amarillo College is definetly a plus to this town, WT and TT is a bonus.

I've always used a Brita water pitcher, so the water doesn't bother me. My parents are on well water and I think it tastes worse than city water.

I would have to agree with buying a house outside of town, but that's just personal feelings, I'm not a "city dweller". I like my space.

Now is the time to move while property values are close to normal.

Hey Goochies,

I'm not talking shiat about Amarillo. I love all of Texas. I'm just poking fun with ya because some crazy arse stuff comes out of the Amarillo and surrounding area posts. I usually get a good crack up when y'all talk about stuff. That's all. bigok

shoot, y'all may not want me and my booty fab stuff running with you.

i lived in canyon from 83 to 86 while i went to WT; didn't graduate in case you were wondering. worked in an auto parts store while there and helped amarillo auto supply with the mud bogs 1 year.

i will be adding to the chevy's and jeep's running around amarillo. bigok

well, today i filled out the eCareer stuff for the post office to see if i get one of the jobs in amarillo. 3 are in customer service, which is 8 to 5 with sundays and a rotating day off. 1 at the GMF on ross, 1 at lone star station and the last at jordan station. the 4th position is at the GMF on the distribution side of the house and the hours on that one are 4:30 am to 1 pm with monday and tuesday off.
so now it is a wait and see what happens. bigok

i want to thank everyone for the well wishes; however.....

i screwed up on going to amarillo. they sent me an email from a third party wanting me to take a test. it went to my spam folder and i was expecting something from USPS.gov and it was from panpowered.com. i thought it was one of those job offer deals like you see in the paper and let the time elapse to take it. oh well, i guess the good Lord has other plans for me at this time. it was not what i really wanted. i want to be postmaster in a small town; not as much money but a lot less headache. i was going to use this as a stepping stone.

and since i am sharing with all you.....

as some of you know, i have had custody of my 2 daughters since '95 when they were 3 and 5.
mellissa is moving to colorado within the week. kimberly told me when she graduates she wants to go ahead and move to borger and go to frank phillips to college. they both told me it wasn't me and that i spoil them and was too lenient on them. they just want to spread their wings a little and get out on their own.
