TMTC: Elections, Newsletter, Ozona

The three topics (Elections, Newsletter, and the Ozona Park) are inter-related right now and here's why:

Normally we'd have a newsletter (Wheels of Progress) out by now with introductions from all of the candidates for the upcoming elections and a voting ballot card to mail in (for those that cannot attend the general membership meeting July 29). But that's not going to happen this time. Only a voting ballot card will be mailed (soon I hope); newsletter publication has been postponed. Candidate bios (or campaign speeches) are supposed to be published on our website www.texasmotorizedtrails.com (I haven't checked to verify this is so) and your Directors are supposed to get the word out (this message).

Why the newsletter delay? Well, it costs a pretty penny to publish our full color newsletter, but the voting postcards are relatively cheap with a mass mailing. "Wait a minute Hatch, I pay an annual membership fee to cover the cost of that newsletter." Yes you do. We are postponing publication in order to keep every possible penny available for closing on the Ozona property (getting very close). Additional inspections have been required (archeological, biological, etc.) and they aren't cheap. Also, due to factors beyond our control, we have had to extend the closing date over and over again, which costs money. Much of these expenses will be reimbursed at or shortly after closing (that's how these federal grants work) and as soon as that happens, the newsletter will be published [with an extra story about our new park!].

I hope to see all new and prospective members at the general membership meeting July 29 at BMRA and I hope we have wonderful news to share about Ozona at that time. TMTC is YOUR organization; it thrives only through your continued support, volunteerism, and membership. It is the ONLY Texas-wide offroad organization dedicated to all motorized offroaders and our need for legal, fun places to ride/wheel, be it the handlebar or steering wheel crowd, two or four wheels, Blazer or buggy (the VW kind).

Thank you.

Oh, a few P.S.'s:

Even if it's an uncontested position, you still need to cast a vote for the one candidate to validate the election.

If you haven't bought your Texas ORV sticker, support the program and buy one at BMRA when you come out for the GMM July 29. Once this new program gets rolling, that's where a lot of the matching funds will come from to augment the federal Recreational Trails Program. We [hopefully] won't have to empty the TMTC purse for future projects/parks.

Thanks again for your support.

Thanks for the update on the new park! Also for all the hard work that you and the rest of the staff do for the organization.

Wish I could be there...I'll be at the National Training Center wheeling a G-ride!

Good luck and thanks to everyone who helped make the new park a reality. I can't wait to get back from Iraq and wheel there! May have to make it the welcome home trip.
