Operation Remembrance

Hey guys…just wanted to let everyone know about an organization my wife and her friend are working on. It’s called Operation Remembrance and its mission is to assist grieving families of our fallen heroes in uniform through memory boxes. They have developed a not for profit organization through the Heritage Foundation and it has really started to take off. The program works like this: A soldier fighting in either Iraq or Afghanistan is killed; the family, friends, or unit visits the Operation Remembrance web site and submits a request for a memory box; my wife and her friend compile the requests and send the box. This box is made of cherry wood and has a glass top to place a picture. Within the box the soldier’s friends place letters and other memorabilia such as “dog tags,” unit coins, rank, or whatever they feel might serve as keep sake for the grieving family. This box is presented to the family once filled with these special items. It is truly sad when a box is sent as it represents a great American who has given his or her life in service to our great nation; however, it shows the grieving family we care and appreciate the service and hopefully helps in a very stressful time. So far about 97 boxes have been sent and Laura, my wife, is receiving more requests every day. I purchased 60 boxes myself and we have received donations from all over the United States but she will need more. I’m not asking for you to send a specific amount of money but I am asking that you visit the web site and if you feel compelled to make a donation please contact me. If not, and you feel this is a worth wild “grass roots” effort doing a great service then support it and pass along the information to your friends and family. If you know of a service man or woman who has lost their life in either of these conflicts please visit the web site and request a box. My wife will never say no to a fallen hero, even if we have to purchase the boxes ourselves to fill every request. Each box costs about $30 to purchase and send so as you can see we could use some help. You can get more specific information at www.operationremembrance.org or call me at (505) 205-1200.

As I near deployment to Iraq I truly hope my family doesn’t receive a box like this; however, it is nice to know there are people trying to relieve some grieving by showing appreciation through something like this. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or my wife at our home if you have questions or would like to donate to this organization. Also, if you work for a company that might provide donations please pass along the information. The off road community is a great group of people with strong family values and I thought I’d pass this along to y’all. Thanks for reading this far and god bless.
