Sammy project/ parts

Took this in on a trade for the black chevy I had. Its been sitting on the side of the shop. Need to move it to make room and dont see myself getting to any new projects soon. Sammy tub and frame cut behind the seat mounts sammy hood no front sheet metal
5.16 geared case with twin stick and hd outputs cradled in a snatch installed
Stock 1.3 motor with new propane kit
Psc tc pwr steering pump with res. Ported Yota box mounted on the frame I have a ram and lines to go with it also
I have a set of poly seat ill throw in also
Also have a set of fj60 axles with ruffstuff trusses welded on waiting on link mounts. Axles are geared 5.29 and locked but i have yet to pull the thirds to see how. Axles have high steer arms on them along with a hd drag link and tie rod assembly with heims

What I found............

Toyota FJ60 and FJ62 Land Cruiser:
front: = ~58.75" wms - wms
rear: = ~58" wms - wms

FJ60 Axle center line to bottom of stock diff housing is ~5.75".

Wheel bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5", same as Toy mini truck, Chevy truck, some jeep and Nissan. Maximum backspacing with steel wheels is 3.75" to clear calipers and TRE.

The FJ60/2 diff is offset to the passenger side both front and rear. The diff is bigger than the Toy truck at 9.5”, but you get the bigger, stronger ring and pinion with that as well. ALL FJ60/2 3rd members also have the stronger fine spline pinion. Diff side gears are 30 spline and are identical to the Toy truck.

The rear diff is semi-float and c-clip. Full float rears are available, but they were NOT commonly supplied to FJ60's imported into the USA. Some are available from Canada, or through some vendors that import them from Australia. A search of the Land Cruiser section (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/forum...?s=&forumid=11) here, and a browse through ih8mud.com (http://ih8mud.com) will also net you more information on these axles.

FJ60/2 front axles use the EXACT same birfield, locking hub, wheel bearings, gasket & seal kit as the 79-85 MiniTruck.

The front short side inner is the same as the FJ40.
The front long side inner is the same as the minitruck.

Front Axle upgrades:
The “Super Birf” and 300M and 4340 Chromo front inners ARE available. Check out:
Polyperformance (http://www.polyperformance.com/)
Longfields (http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/)
Allpro Offroad (http://www.allprooffroad.com/)
Marlin Crawler (http://marlincrawler.com/)

Brakes:
FJ60 brakes consist of vented disc’s with 4 piston calipers on the front and “modern” drum rear brakes. On both the front and rear axle there is one flex line that runs to a “T” near the diff, then out to the calipers and drums on each side.

The rear drums are much like the mini truck drums and will work very well if in good condition. The rear parking brake cable is set up very similar to the stock samurai, and should present no problem to adapt. However, If your drums are in poor condition, it may be cheaper to convert to discs in the rear. There are several excellent post’s here in the LC section covering rear discs, and several links to articles covering rear discs on ih8mud.com.

Since the FJ60 uses such larger calipers and drums, a master cylinder swap should be considered. There are several options to choose from for the MC. The easiest would probably be a MC from a late model (99/00) Subaru forrester/legacy/etc. The Subaru MC is made by the same company that supplied the samurai MC and it will bolt right onto the sami booster.

Steering:
There are a number of ways to adapt the steering.
The MiniTruck high steer arms bolt right on and are available from many vendors. You can run the stock sami steering box or a sidekick power steering box using a kit from SKY - Manufacturing (http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/steering.htm).
You can also use the power steering box from an IFS toy minitruck if you plan to run the front axle close to the stock location. The best steering gearbox to use if you want to push your axle forward for extra wheel base is the FJ60 box. Check out scwafish’s FJ 60 box install. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...0+steering+box)

Gearing:
Stock FJ60 gear ratio is 3.70:1.
Stock FJ62 gear ratio is 4.11:1.
Check the Land cruiser section for other available gearing options.
Charlie Glabe, known as pin head in the Land Cruiser section has an Excellent write up on rebuilding and setting up the Land Cruiser 9.5" differential (http://members.cox.net/cglabe1/Diff/diff.html)

Driveshafts:
The ‘80-‘85 FJ60 front is a CV joint shaft. The ‘85-‘90 FJ60/62 front shaft is a longer, standard 2 u-joint shaft. All FJ60/62 rear shafts are the standard 2 u-joint type. Adapting FJ60 driveshafts to the sami t-case, or even using toy mini truck shafts, should be no problem. Our very own rockrat makes a kickass adapter that can be found here. (http://www.rock4xfabrication.com/ratadapter.htm) Also, Check this thread for various toyota driveshaft flange bolt patterns. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...5&pagenumber=2)

Spring Choice:
This will entirely depend on what you want for wheelbase, ride height, flex, etc...
YJ springs, XJ rear springs, Waggoneer springs, yota mini rear springs, coils, coil overs will all work depending on how much you want to fab.
