Hey Dott,

The carb is my Off-Road Truck Avenger 770. I would do it myself, but I know nothing about how to clean them. Sticking a can of carb cleaner and firing away won't do. It needs to soak and I don't know all the particulars.

Now, that shouldn't stop me. Since I can rebuild a whole truck I should be able to do a little old carb, but when it comes to my 383, I'm really hands off. I want someone who is really capable to handle it.

I'll contact Holley today and see what they can offer me in terms of DIY instructions.

Are you good at cleaning carbs? Nothing needs replacement. Just a good cleaning!

Actually, I was joking about having a carburetor.

was it acting up before? why would you try and fix something that isn't broken.
to me that would be way down on the list if their was a problem.
focus on the big picture. ....get your truck put back together. address the rust around the windshield paint, exhaust, wiring then.....if it don't run right address the carburetor. IMHO

The engine has run rich which has caused a lot of soot to form in the body of the carb. Nothing is wrong. I just want it cleaned. My engine will be reinstalled in a week or two, and it will be going off to the exhaust shop so it needs to be able to fire up.

imo , get the engine together , see how it runs then have carb work done on a running motor, very hard to set a carb jetting and idle without motor, especially on a high performance engine . that said jet enterprises can do it but you mail it to them .

Holley use to offer a rebuild service, might call them and ask.

But if it ran good before other then being rich, just clean your carb with small brush and q-tips with some carb cleaner in a can. If you want to be able to set the carburetor on the motor and and not have to tune it, then you are looking or a carburetor tuner and not a builder as rebuilding a carburetor is easy, tuning it takes a lot of effort.

OH and it's going to take more effort then just point and spray if it's a heavy buildup and more then one can.

BINGO! You hit it right on the head Cody. That's why I want it cleaned. It's really bad from the carbon. It ran good before I pulled the engine, but I know it does need to be tuned a little. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Matt,

The carb is way out of warranty unless Holley gives life time warranties.

you've completely torn down your entire truck, mostly by yourself. Why not just pull the carb apart by yourself and clean it? As long as you remember where everything goes, as you take if off, it shouldn't be any big deal to put it all back together.

Or hell... just throw it in the dishwasher.

LMAO @ GIJOE - It's easier said than done.

Manny - Besides doing it yourself....the only place I could think of is Midas, unless you wanna try this place. I think its the only shop that really specializes in that sort of work.

yeah, but not much easier. Carbs are ridiculously simple. And if there is any worry, just take notes, and a ton of pictures.
