... FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING...


THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO HAS EXPANDED THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE A PORTION OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS... INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES... BEXAR... BLANCO... BURNET... COMAL... HAYS... TRAVIS AND WILLIAMSON.


* THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING


* EXPECT HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES FROM SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS THAT COULD REDEVELOP OVER THE SAME AREAS. THE HIGHEST RAINFALL TOTALS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THE HILL COUNTRY... BUT URBANIZED AREAS ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO RUN-OFF AND THEREFORE WILL REQUIRE LESS RAIN TO CAUSE FLASH FLOODING.


* THESE HEAVY RAINS COULD PRODUCE LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODING OVER LOW WATER CROSSINGS AND NORMALLY DRY WASHES OF. SOME LARGER RIVERS AND STREAMS COULD EXPERIENCE BRIEF RISES... MAKING FOR A POTENTIAL HAZARD FOR THOSE WITH RECREATIONAL INTERESTS ALONG THE RIVERS OF THE HILL COUNTRY AND ADJACENT AREAS.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS FLASH FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN OR NEAR THE WATCH AREA. IF YOU ARE IN THE WATCH AREA... PLAN NOW FOR WHAT YOU WILL DO IF FLASH FLOODING DEVELOPS. STAY INFORMED AND BE READY TO ACT IF YOU SEE FLOODING OR IF A FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED.

ABUNDANT TROPICAL MOISTURE AND AN UNSTABLE AIRMASS ALOFT WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE EDWARDS PLATEAU... HILL COUNTRY... RIO GRANDE PLAINS... AND ADJACENT AREAS THROUGH THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES... ESPECIALLY ACROSS AREAS ALONG AND NORTHWEST OF A LINE FROM EAGLE PASS TO SAN ANTONIO TO GEORGETOWN. RAIN CHANCES WILL GRADUALLY END FROM WEST TO EAST THROUGHOUT THE DAY TUESDAY.

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR... CENTRAL BEXAR COUNTY...
* UNTIL 1030 PM CDT.


* AT 723 PM CDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS HAVE DETERMINED THAT RAINFALL ESTIMATES FROM DOPPLER RADAR INDICATE FLASH FLOODING FROM A THUNDERSTORM OVER THE WARNED AREA.


* LOCATIONS IN THE WARNING INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO SHAVANO PARK... HOLLYWOOD PARK AND HILL COUNTRY VILLA. THESE STORMS ARE TRACKING SOUTHWARD AND WILL BE AFFECTING THE SAN ANTONIO METRO AREA WITHIN THE NEXT HALF HOUR. ESTIMATED RAINFALL RATE ARE SHOWING AN INCH TO INCH AND THREE QUARTER PER HOUR.

* AT 713 PM CDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE METEOROLOGISTS HAVE DETECTED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS NORTHERN BEXAR COUNTY BETWEEN HELOTES AND HOLLYWOOD PARK. DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATED RAINFALL RATES BETWEEN ONE AN TWO INCHES PER HOUR WITH THESE STORMS.


* RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING TO OCCUR... ESPECIALLY ALONG SMALL STREAMS AND NEAR LOW WATER CROSSINGS. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE MINOR FLOODING

AT 818 PM CDT... THE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY THAT MOVED THROUGH THE SAN ANTONIO AREA THE PAST HOUR... COLLAPSED AND LIGHT SHOWERS ARE NOW AFFECTING THE WARNED AREA. THESE SHOWERS WILL AGGRAVATE THE FLASH FLOODING AREAS FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS... BEFORE THE WATERS RECEDE.
