Jeep 258 blowby crank case pressure oil out dip stick fix
After a few days and thoughts about pulling motor and swapping to a small block in my CJ because of oil blowing out the dipstick I decided to try to fix it without rebuilding...the motor ran to good to pull just to rering it, also did not want to build a catch can and empty it all the time. I tried quite a few different ways of running vacuum from PCV valve to 2 PCV valves oil caps with breathers bla bla bla nothing worked....
My motor is a 85 258 4.2, I have Howell fuel injection so I have a fuel pump block off plate...so to do this system you will have to switch to a electric fuel pump so you will have a block off plate...things you will need fuel pump block off plate 4 ft 3/8 vacuum hose pcv valve PCV valve cover breather with 3/8 hose barb on it "auto Zone" valve cover breather Mr gasket new valve cover groumet 1/4 to 3/8 brass 90 3/8 hose barb drill and tap fuel block off plate in the middle 1/4 in into the plate with the 3/8 pointing up,put the 3/8 hose barb on it... Take the valve cover PCV breather and take a grinder cut the very bottom of it off so the PCV plunger will come out, take the spring and valve out of it so oil can pass threw it place it in the rear hole on the valve cover... cut off enough hose to go from fuel block off plate to the new PCV breather in the rear valve cover hole and attach... put new PCV valve in the second hole from the rear and attach to your vacuum line comeing off carb... where your oil cap is put the new groumet there and put the Mr Gasket breather in it... You dont have to use a PCV valve breather if you have a 3/8 90 that will fit your groumet like in the 4.0,I didnt have 1 so I grabbed the PCV with the 3/8s hose barb on it because it was available... Im not very good at reading and writing so if someone wants to rerite this I wont mind at all...I dont get on here visit like most of you but I appreciate the board and I wanted to donate,I'm sure there are different ways to do this but this is what I found that stopped all the oil puking out of mine....and trust me yours cant be worse than mine!if someone wants pics shoot me a text Im not good at posting pics...Hope this helps someone! Thanks Tiger Hays |
