Building an AR?

If I wanted to build an AR, where would I start to look to gather parts? Better yet, what are some places that you should stay away from, due to bad rep, over priced, shoddy craftsmanship, etc...? With the prices of AR's coming down, is it still beneficial from a cost standpoint to build your own?

Stay away from Cheaper Than Dirt, dem bastids!

AIM usually has good prices on stuff. I have a polymer lower sitting in my safe I'm wanting to build into a plinkster for my son...might get it done for Christmas this year. It's just cheaper to find one complete and used.

There's a huge thread on pirate on building one as well.

Just finished mine and while I'm no expert I learned a lot by building it. I like the fact I know every piece of it in and out. They are pretty cheap complete right now and that leaves room to customize as needed/want.

Places I buy from..

Ammunition, Magazines, Rifle Parts, Bulk Ammo and Rifle Accessories - Palmetto State Armory

AIM Surplus Home

Surplus Ammo Home

Surplus ammo and arms is who I went through to get my upper and lower. I really like the fact that if you can add it to your cart it's in stock.

I built a rock river with NM trigger, 16" stainless bull & Crome bcg, leupold mark ar scope.. I have about 1100 in it, but its a tack driver. 300 yds was no problem hitting a basketball sized gong at my bosses range.
I also have a p308 by Pof, that thing is the shiznit!
