I have a question, can I replace my 700R4 with a 4L60e??
Does it have to have the computer to tell it to shift? This is a trail rig only and shouldnt really ever see anthing but 1st and 2nd anyway. any advice??

4l60 requires and ecm, and no real advantage over 700 in first and 2nd gear, 700 actually lower.

as I understand it, the 700r4 and the 4l60 are the same tranny other than the year they were produced. But the 4l60e is a computer controlled tranny which I believe began in 93 (?)

so are you asking about the 4l60 or 4l60e?

Sorry, I wasnt very clear about my question/problem. Im building a truck that HAS to be ready for Katemacy June 11th. My 700r4 is not going into reverse (grinding\slipping)
I have temporary access to a 4L60e, for this trip, until I can get the 700 rebuilt. Will it get me through the weekend without the computer? LIke I said if I will get 1st and 2nd that should be enough.
