The harmonic balancer will have a big notch cut out of it. The others have a solid balancer all the way around. The flexplate will also have a weight welded to it.

4x4Freak is partially correct, but you can have an aftermarket balancer or flexplate/flywheel with those same descriptions, and then there were some small block that were balanced just as the 400's were. Casting numbers are the best bet.

If you have access to the side of the block look for one that is stamped with "509". These blocks have a higher nickel content.

If and when you get a 400, start by throwing the heads away.smokin

hey thanks for you guys help...i pulled the numbers off the block infront of passenger head adn below alt...can anyone set up a link for running these numbers...here they are 14J197243 V03CMR

here are the numbers off the block from behind drivers head 3970010
i havent been able to find any specific info..everything leads to a 327 or a 350...im trying to find out if its a 2bolt or 4..ive tryed several sites but nothing has told me exacly what it is.
