Thanks for all of you thoughts and prayers. I will stop in and give up dates when I can. I'm told that it is a 18 month deployment so Next fall I should be wheeling in TX again.

I should be able to do a little rock crawling in Afghan with a hummer but I'm thinking they do better in the mud that on the rocks, they don't articulate all that well. At least I wont have to pay for any broken parts :)

Well after a month of Training there think that I'm ready to join the mission and leave next month. I will be on Leave this week and will spend most of the time with my family that is coming in to town.

I will post photo's and notes here when I can.

Life should be OK as they have me in the command cell to look after all the computers. Could be alot worse :)

So I have been here for a month. The first 3 weeks we where trying to find out every thing from the guys that where leaving, well now they have left so it's do or die. I should be fine on the IT side as no one in the Task Force has any idea about computers so it's easy to shine.

Our mission is to help the Civil Affairs or CA, rebuild the different towns and city's. So in most of the big city's you have a Forward Operating Base or FOB and a Provisional Reconstruction Team or PRT. The FOB is the Combat teams that go out and get the Taliban and the PRT's escort the CA guys to the local government and help build bridges and roads so they can do better. We have a total of 8 PRT's that we man with about 70 troops at each. There are more PRT's but they are manned by other country's. I don't know much about the FOB's, but I know they are bigger and have a lot more people.

A few days ago I got to Qalat, a small town out side of Kandahar, and fixed up all the software that they need and then was just taking care of questions and personal issues with laptops. I'm not scheduled to leave here for a few days, so last night at 1 am local some one fired 2 RPG's at the PRT. One of them hit a hospital next door, about 100 m away from the main wall, and the other one went over and didn't hit any thing of ours, I'm sure it hit something. The hospital is being built so there is no one there. We sent out a contact team but nothing was found to ID who it was. No one was hurt, the soldier in the tower near the hit said that it knocked him down to the floor, but that was all.

Most of the time this is very much like my tour in Egypt, same towns and roads and driving conditions. Well, we didn't have any rocket attacks so I guess it is a little different :)

I hope that this help's understand what we are up too.

hi

Good to hear from you, stay low. Sorry to hear of the rocket attacks. It is probably the few who are trying hard to mess it all up for the main population. We hear that for the most part the citizens there support our troops. I hope this is true and we are not loosing people for nothing. Best wishes and hope to have you back ASAP wheeling with all of us.
