At the last TMTC meeting held in April this year, what was told us is that we are waiting on a "Park Plan" to be put in place. This is something that we didn't have to do for BMRA, so no one has ever done this before. Tony is in charge of finishing this plan.
Can you get with Tony and get an update on this ?

I'd like to know the current status of the "EDRA" or Ozona Property. X replied to this thread Sept of 2006 and nothing has been mentioned since. WE need a member of the BOD or preferably the EXEC committee to respond to this. I'm looking for the "Official" status, not rumors joe schmoo has heard from his sisters ex brother in laws friend who met Mr. Schmuck at the bar last week.
Park plan? Wheel it!! That is if ya`ll get off your duff and open the gate!
Well, I'm no exec, but read here:

The EDRA Master Use Plan is a magnum opus - it is a collosal undertaking to satisfy many government interests, such as archeological surveys, ecological impact surveys, etc. The master use plan has been through 9 revisions on its way to TPWD for approval. All of that work was done by a very small group of unpaid volunteers, of whom I was not one but to whom I am very grateful.

Everyone needs to remember two things about this property -
1. It was bought, in part, with public funds, which means it is subject to government regulation. It is not now, nor will it ever be, ours to do whatever we want to with it.
2. TPWD must approve our initial plan and they will continue to be a part of operations at EDRA. And, they need to be, EDRA would not now exist without TPWD. If TMTC fails to manage the park as agreed with TPWD, it reverts to the state. Again, public funds.

So, "free money" has strings. We're working through them now. The timetable is not in our control exclusively.

I strongly suggest anyone with a real desire to discuss EDRA nuts and bolts to get in touch with Tony Eeds, who has worked tirelessly on the EDRA plan. He can be emailed at teeds - at - whiterockstudio.com Tony is chairman of the EDRA Operations Committee. You don't get much more "official" than that.

Public Meeting set on EDRA Master Plan

Notice of Public Meeting

The Texas Motorized Trails Coalition (TMTC) has been awarded a Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) grant from the Recreational Trails Fund to acquire property and to develop a public recreation area in Crockett County. This proposed public recreation area will include trails to ride off-road recreational vehicles, specifically all-terrain vehicles, off-road motorcycles and full sized four wheel drive vehicles. The park plan also includes non-motorized recreational areas which will be available for Crockett County residents and youth groups.

The property was acquired in August, 2006. The TPWD and the TMTC have drafted a park development and operations plan which contains detailed procedures related to how the park will be developed and operated. Parks and Wildlife invites all interested citizens to attend a public meeting on Monday evening September 17, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Crockett County Civic Center in Ozona. The meeting will include a short overview of the proposed project, the funding source, question and answer period and public input.

For individuals who would like to submit comments on the proposed project, but can not attend the meeting, written comments may be sent directly to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department at the address below. For questions or additional information call Steve Thompson in the Recreation Grants Branch, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department at 512-912-7130. Written comments may be submitted to this address:

Status Update from the Prez

Teeds said:
I thought I would post an update of where we stand with the development plan.
As of now, the master plan has been accepted by the adjacent landowners and is being reviewed by the US Fish & Game and Texas Historical Commission folks.
Once those hurdles are behind us, we will go before the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Commission for final state approval.
Following that approval, the entire document goes before the US Department of Transportation for the final hurdle of all.
Once we have USDOT approval, we can begin the process of laying out trails and installing infrastructure. At this point I anticipate that we will not begin construction until early spring 2008.
Steve Thompson with TPWD will be the team leader for laying out all trails in the park. Certain trails skirt avoidance zones and he must verify compliance.
The water well and electricity will be installed ASAP along with a parking area. Once those improvements are in place, we will likely have a soft opening of the facility.
Sometime in the coming summer, we will be hosting an open house for all TMTC members and all residents of Crockett County.
FYI for the folks at home.

We are "officially" on the agenda for the November 8th TPWD Commission Meeting in Austin.
This does not mean that we will get final approval, but this is the last big hurdle that is between us and starting work on the ground.

I have been out to EDRA. I have wheeled two of the jeep trails and stayed at the bottom camp.

I live in Sheffield.

To try and answer a few of the other questions I read in this thread and to give everyone some info:

Sheffield is about 20 miles from TMTC's EDRA.
Population 200.
GAS - There is one gas station that sells sodas, beer, ice and a few snacks.
Hours are M-F 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM & Sat 12:00PM - 6:00 PM. Closed on Sundays but have been talking about opening for a few hours. The gas pumps do not have the credit card machine on them so once the place is closed you can no longer buy gas. I do believe they take credit cards inside during regular hours.
FOOD - There is one place to eat called Gloria's Kitchen (600 Southern St) It's on the corner of Avenue H and Southern St. There are about 6 tables under an porch were you eat. I will have to get back to you on the hours but the phone number is 432.836.4631
BAR - There is a bar were the locals hang out but it's BYOB as they do not have a TABC license yet...they are working on it.
Post Office - There is one Post Office in town M - F 8-5
County Pool - There is a county pool that is open during the summer months.
PARKS - There are two parks in town with swings, picnick tables, and B-ball court.
ROADSIDE PARK - Traveling towards Sheffield there is a large roadside park with 3 tables about 8 miles from TMTC's EDRA. It has plenty of room and a killer view of the area. WORTH THE TRIP!
FORT LANCASTER - This old fort is located about 10 miles from TMTC's EDRA going towards Sheffield. http://www.visitfortlancaster.com/index.aspx?page=8
The Pecos River runs through this area but there is no access other then through private land.

I will update more if need be or answer any questions.

update from ImCooter

EDRA is open by appointment right now. Just need to call or email and make sure somebody is there to meet you at the gate for fees and paperwork. It's still dry camping, pack it in and pack out right now.

We've been working super hard with contractors and regulatory agencies to get everything going out there. Currently all the underground utilities are in, just need to get the water treatment plant installed and operational. Rv park hookups finished out and then a restroom installed and we can say we're "open" according to the state. With that said, everything is on track for an opening late this year.

I've been the tmtc president for the last 4 years and opening this park has been a priority for me.

Can't wait to see your group out there for some amazing trails!

Let me know when you want to come and we'll open the gate for you.
