Did I mention that TMTC closed on this property last week?

It's official, TMTC now owns the property in Ozona that will become park #2.

Stacy

PS - Sorry for the late notice, but a lot of personal business has kept me very busy the last few weeks.

Beginning Saturday at my last TMTC BOD meeting, I'm going to push for a "Let's Get Acquainted With How We're Going To Do This Thing At Ozona" run for Labor Day Weekend (which kills my Clayton plans).

Sep 4 is Labor Day. This is not a fer-sher, just a target date that I will lobby for.

Based on all previous discussions regarding Ozona by the BOD, TMTC membership will be a requirement for coming out on a work weekend. We will make provisions for non-members to become members on site. Ther may also be a reduced user fee and/or camping fee to cover use of whatever facilities we have available (porta-johns??) and to begin putting a few $$ in the Ozona til.

trail nameing. you cut it, run it & you name it?
Trail naming is usually through sponsorship of that trail.

So, you have to cut it, run it, name it, AND maintain it a given number of times per year.

Also, trails will not be cut just anywhere. This park will be planned better than the last, i.e. criss-crossing trails will be kept to a minimum, no trail should be located adjacent to other trails, etc...

Here's the short story:

Property closed in July (almost exactly one year from the day we first stepped foot on it), so the land officially belongs to TMTC.

Now, begins the next stage. We can't do anything with the property until a development plan is proposed and approved by all of the bureaucracies that have to sign off on it. Development plan is currently being put together by the Ozona park committee.

Since we can't do anything until the development plan is approved (probably Jan 07), the property was leased to the hunters that have leased this property in the past. This does two things. One, it allows the property to begin generating some revenue that will become the seed money needed for development. Two, it allows the property to be used & maintained without us having to pay for it.

TP&W is sponsoring a GPS/mapping class for some of their people (and a couple of ours) on the property one weekend in October (that we reserved from the hunters) in order to springboard the development plan with some mapping information.

I would not expect any trail cutting to take place until spring (or maybe even summer) of 07.

Ozona now has an official name - Escondido Draw Recreation Area (EDRA).

The current TMTC members of the EDRA Operation Committee are:

Tony Eeds (even-year at-large rep)
Bubba Hickman (even-year ATV rep)
Laura White (communications outreach director)
Carol Smith (Odd-year ATV rep)
Alan Hatcher
Jud Parner
J.R. Rhodes

I'm not sure who the committee chairman is. Any TMTC member can volunteer to join the EDRA Operations Committee, by the way . . .

As for the bureaucracies involved, it's mostly Texas Parks & Wildlife. Archeological and other surveys must be completed to comply with grant funding requirements. Further a development plan must be approved by TP&W. Call it Spring '07 best guess for when trails might start to be cut in earnest, and summer for the opening to the public.

I have seen pictures that are not in wide circulation though, and let me tell you, it's going to be worth the wait. It's a magnificent property and about twice the size of BMRA.

I'd like to know the current status of the "EDRA" or Ozona Property. X replied to this thread Sept of 2006 and nothing has been mentioned since. WE need a member of the BOD or preferably the EXEC committee to respond to this. I'm looking for the "Official" status, not rumors joe schmoo has heard from his sisters ex brother in laws friend who met Mr. Schmuck at the bar last week.

At the last TMTC meeting held in April this year, what was told us is that we are waiting on a "Park Plan" to be put in place. This is something that we didn't have to do for BMRA, so no one has ever done this before. Tony is in charge of finishing this plan.
