Arkansas road trip. :)

Just thought I would drop a line and tell ya'll about your trip to Arkansas this year. We left out about 2:00 am in the morning from Waskom, TX. We like to drive at night when we can, and there is just nothing to really see when Interstate driving. At 6:00 am we pulled into a lake side park and took a short nap. The guy running the park was supper nice. We told him we was just looking for a place to take a nap, and he didn't charge us to stay there. Now with a nap behind us and the sun up in the air, we hit the road again. At a little town called Snowball we hit the trails. We with into the Ozark National Forest. Like any National Forest there are really good maintain roads, If you stay on the main roads. Or if you are like me, you can try you luck on some of the small roads that go off to the side. Sometimes they will go on forever and sometimes they just stop cold. What I really like about the Ozark's are the creek beds. We drove up a few of them. One of the creeks we got on turned out to be a little hard for the F250 to handle. The gravel was really unconsolidated and with the weight of my truck, I had to really take it easy.
Here is a shot of my truck headed down a creek bed.

We took lots of pics inside the truck, but when mudgoddess got out of the truck to do some spotting, so I could turn around, and take a pic of the truck she slipped on a rock and went under the water. She had seen a tadpole in the water and was tring to get a shot of it. The camera went under the water with her. We got the card out, but the camera is finished! I could tell how being locked in the front helped me out in there. The slip in the back killed me most of the day. At some point it got to tough for us to keep driving so we turned around and went back to a park.

After a quick lunch we went hiking. Our plan was to just go to the twin waterfall, on Richland Creek, about a mile up the the stream. It wasn't a good time of the year for waterfalls, just to dry. When we had traveled about two miles looking for the waterfall, we gave up. Looks like we past it back down the stream somewhere. By this time my feet where to sore to walk back down that rock infested creek, so we decided just to climb up out of the canyon. Just looking at the GPS the road was only about 200 ft above us. That was a long hard climb for a fat boy. We made the 1.5 mile trip back to the truck and took a short dip in the creek. We got in the truck to head out, but we seen a hiking trail that went straight to the waterfall, so we took it just so we could see what it looked like from the hill. It turn to be a good thing we did too. There was another couple with there kids at the swimming hole that was getting ready to leave, but there SUV wouldn't start. If we had left when we started to they would of had had about a 7 mile walk out of there. Maintains right around there are about 2,000 ft high. Not something I would want to do with two small kids. They might have missed us if I hadn't stopped to look at a insect trap. After I put the Jumpstart back up we where off again. We just followed roads where ever they wanted to go. Lots of deer, turkeys and even a bobcat where seen in the forest. We head north, when we hit a blacktop road. We turned of the road at the Buffalo River Wild Life Reserve. We drove trails in there for over 5 hrs. My wife had the GPS tracking on the laptop as we where driving around. At one point we seen a large hole in the ground. Most have been about 100 ft deep. I could see guys with a hard core rig driving down in it and tring to get back out. It was that big. Because we had the map on the GPS we where only taking brown line and brown dash line roads. One time we took this one road and was headed down to the river. The road keep getting smaller. More and more logs where laying across the road. The road was really starting to get some big washouts in it. Stuff you want to see if someone else is behind you, but start eating on you if you are by yourself. I kept thinking about the trip Hatch took and what all he had to do to get his truck back. I did a 20 point turn and got out of there.
The next day we went cave sight seeing. Lots of caves in the Ozarks and hit hit three of them this trip. Went into Branson, MO and spent the rest of the day there at Ripley's beleave it or not. We ended up getting home at 5:00am this morning.

Pics here!

That was Hwy 65. I didn't spend to much time on 7 this year. For anybody who has never been to Arkansas and wants to see the pretty stuff take Hwy 7. It comes with 7 deg slopes and whining turns, great views and rock faces. I just wish we could have got more pics. It was fun putting the truck in 4 wheeldrive because the road was to steep and not because of mud at work.

Great pics!! By the time the second page loaded, I was surrounded with the kids. I had to go through them again so everyone could see them all.

Sounds like a fun trip.

Thumbs up

Hope Mudgoddess doesn't take it wrong, but you are a much better photographer than her. It is obvious.....just look at how many more people hit on the pic you took of her than any of the pics she took.

She should not feel badly, because you just had more to work with than she did.

Thanks for the write-up and the pics.
