Bridgeport carnage & police

Well we went to bridgeport this weekend and I broke a another dana 60 knuckle, lost the valve stem in my front wheel and had to be dragged up hill and then on to the trailer, possibly ruined a 44 bogger and put a hole in my radiator, but that wasn't the worst part. This all happened around 6:30 and as you all know the park closes at 7. Fair enough but what do you do if your rig is broken? I personally have over $20,000 invested in my rig and thousands of hours of blood sweet and s. I'm not about to leave it there overnight. Well anyways about 7:15 or so we were told to leave and that we would have to leave my jeep there. We said it would only take a little while longer to get it up out of the rocks and on to a trailer. So what does the park do? THEY CALL THE POLICE! A police officer was dispatched to remove us from the park. When he showed up he told us that we had to leave now without the jeep. We almost had it up to the road and we were able to convince him that we only needed 20 minutes or so to load it up and then we'd gladly leave. Luckily the police officer was understanding of the situation and allowed me to get my rig out of there. All is well that ends well, so whats the big deal. THEY CALLED THE POLICE!!!! You wheel all day in the hot sun have a few adult beverages and break your knuckle and next thing you know you have cops in your face your rig gets impounded and you go to jail. That didn't happen but if the wrong police officer showed up it could have. That's bullshit in my book. There wasn't any police out there when we helping blaze trails and build that place. It was no big deal if you didn't get out on time then. Now you have some tough guy in charge calling the cops. That utterly unacceptable **** BRIDEGPORT!!! and thank you to the bridgeport police department for being more understanding and lenient than the park manager!

I know it is hard to leave a rig over night, but rules are rules. We have had members on this web site that had to leave there rig at K-rocks when it broke, and they had to drive down there the next weekend just to get it.

BTW I know it sucks, but really cool you broke a D-60!

You knew the rules going in. Calling the cops is a little of the chart and it would suck to leave the rig But these people have lives to and if they let one person stay 20 mins late then one 30 mins late then 2 hrs late then 4 hrs late you get my drift.

How the heck do you keep braking d60 stuff... man?

Militaries??

You got everything riding on the top of the knuckles don't you. I see to many knuckles go that way.

Agree, it sucks but I can understand them sticking with the rules and calling the cops. If your not going to leave, what else can they do? I guess a good rule of thumb would be, ride the bunny trails after 4pm.

I'd like to hear both sides of the story. It sux they had to call the cops but if I worked there I wouldn't want to wait around for someone to get his broken junk loaded up either.

I don't know the whole story, but as attendants out there we are instructed to call the PD when we need to leave. They are simply there to expedite the situation and lock the gates when everyone is out.

Northwest ORV Park is a City of Bridgeport owned and operated off-road park. The rules and regulations and park operating hours are clearly stated on their website link and are also handed out to everyone entering the Park. Any questions can be directed toward the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Bridgeport,TX.

It's BAD BUSINESS! Poorly thought procedure's, poor management, and it will eventually lead to a loss of revenue. If your vehicle breaks down on the highway you are not forced to leave it. If I'm forced to leave my off-road vehicle in a public city owned park because the park closes before I can get it back on the trailer then park will become liable. I spoke with my attorney on this matter and he said if I'm forced to leave with out my vehicle then they would eventually become responsible for it. Same rules apply as if my vehicle were to be towed and impounded. The park and the city would take on a certain amount of liabilty. Therefor it would be stupid for the park to not have a remedial plan for disabled vehicles. I was allowed into the park and released the park from liability while the vehicle is under my own control but where I force to leave with out it then the park would assume liabilty. The vehicle being my own private property the park doesn't have the right remove me from it without removing my vehicle as well. My point being yes I knew the rules, but accident happen and it is poor planing for the park to have not considered this and created a more political procedure for handling such situations.

My knuckle broke because these things happen when you have 44" tires and you play hard, my radiator and a practically new 44" bogger are ruined because we were forced to recover my rig as fast as possible to avoid being arrested instead of being allowed to repair it properly and drive it out.

Oh well just wanted everyone to know how the park wants to handle these things.

Well, if you dont want to leave your broken rig on the trail after hours, either dont break it or dont go to places that shut down at night. Gilmer, and Katemcy both have or had rules about stuff like that.

I hate to go against what seems to be the popular opinion here but I`m not leaving my rig on the trail or anywhere else.If parks can`t deal with that then I won`t go to said park. Also, calling the cops cause your rig is broke on the trail is just wrong any way you look at it.

I know a lot of you guys on here have more money wraped up in your rigs than I. That being said I would have a hard time leaving my pos anywhere unattended. I would like to think that if my rig broke down I could go to the owner of the park, explain to him what happen and ask that I be able to retrieve my rig and be granted the right. If I was denied and the cops were called....hmm

Here are some Texas laws.

§ 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY. A person is
justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or
tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the
other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the
deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of
arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the
nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing
immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated
robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the
property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or
recovered by any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to
protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or
another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.

§ 9.41. PROTECTION OF ONE'S OWN PROPERTY. (a) A person in
lawful possession of land or tangible, movable property is
justified in using force against another when and to the degree the
actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to
prevent or terminate the other's trespass on the land or unlawful
interference with the property.
(b) A person unlawfully dispossessed of land or tangible,
movable property by another is justified in using force against the
other when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force
is immediately necessary to reenter the land or recover the
property if the actor uses the force immediately or in fresh pursuit
after the dispossession and:
(1) the actor reasonably believes the other had no
claim of right when he dispossessed the actor; or
(2) the other accomplished the dispossession by using
force, threat, or fraud against the actor

We've ripped Rockwell axles out from under rigs and have gotten them off the trails in plenty of time. I don't fawk around standing there bitching about it or drinking and bitching about it. Supid stuff happens and you need to be prepared to deal with it when it does.

No I wouldn't want to leave my rig either but I'd fawk up my tow rig to get it out before they kicked me out.

I try my best to pack all the tools I might need and bring along a porta for the realy fawked up breaks. I hate it tuned out like that for you and hope you get your rig back togeather and on the trails soon.

X2 on Gilmer. You think Bridgport is hard on rules you need to stay out on the trails after dark at Gilmer and see what happens.

May I ask why a letter of protest hasn't been written professionally to these folks? I think it is totally reprehensible how you were treated. Maybe I'm wrong, but the park did nothing to help assist you in your troubles. I'm not saying they should have offered any services to assist you recover your vehicle. However, they could have done something to allow you removal of your vehicle. It's not like you were trying to pull a fast one to wheel more. Apparently they don't have a contingency plan to deal with things like this, when I feel they should.

Prepared or not sometimes it just takes a lot of time to get a broken rig off the trail especially when it is a hard trail. Welding and rebuilding in the middle of the trail is not an easy task itself. Either way I wouldn't leave my rig there unattended for any [email protected]@rd to get a hold of before I could get back to it.
