First time to Gilmer

A friend and I went to Gilmer for our first time and had a blast. I ran my Jeep and he was in his fairly new dodge ram. It was perfect camping weather and I couldn't be any more happy about the trip exept the fact that my gas tank is screwed up. The funny thing is it didn't even happen on the trail, it happend while filling up in Pittsburg. While I was helping a doctor jump off his wifes mini van the pump didn't automatically shut off when my gas tank was full and so gas ran every where. Now my gauge reads the tank as full and I can't fill it up because the pump reads the tank as full and I know it's not. Any suggestions? For some reason I can't get the pictures to upload onto cardomain so I don't got any pictures right now. We got to Gilmer friday at about 3 p.m or so and set up camp and watched some of the 'expert offroad' guys run some of the harder lines on twister and then we ran a few of the easier lines. We wheeled 'till about 11:30 and called it a night. We ran omega, we show, and a few of the trail on that side of the park and then some how the ended up coming out of the entrance on weenie world which is rated at a 4 which we thought was pretty cool. Saturday we watched a few jeeps take a run at DeWoody. One broke an axle shaft and the other poped his front end around and almost back down. Then we attempted the harder lines on twister but we couldn't do it with open diffs. We ran "on any sunday" and my favorite of the day was boulder Boulavard. We also ran angry jeep and greenlane I think it is. All in all it was an awsome weekend and yes I will be going back because I am now a member of TMTC.

Just wondering what trail this is?

I wont be going on Sunday cruise anymore. I always get a little crazy and break something which results in a major buildup the next 6 months. But it is a fun trail to get twisted up in, or lay it on your side and drive until the motor blows or the axle shafts or the locker.

Cool, I want to run it next time I go. This was my first time to actually go on a wheeling trip to a real park and run real trails. I am hooked and will be going back soon. I loved it.

Does anyone have any suggestions on my gas tank problem? I'm getting gas to the engine just fine so the fuel pump is fine but I just can't fill my tank up and the fuel gauge reads full even though it's not.

Maybe the vent tube has some gas trapped in it and a stuck sending unit. When we put a flat bed on my work truck, we kinked the vent tube. It wouldn't accept gas until we found the problem.

How 'bout them good looking fellas in the pic!! toast

Are you talking about the sending unit from the fuel pump? And on the vent hose are you talking about the smaller one that runs along the filler hose?

Yes the smaller hose. Make sure it isn't kinked or somehow stopped up. Or maybe even the filler hose too. The float on the sending unit for the gas gauge may have got stuck in the full postion. These are just ideas.

Well I messed with it today and even unplugged the fuel sending unit wires and reconnected them to see if it would reset the fuel gauge but nothing changed. I checked both hoses but I noticed nothing. I don't know what I'm gonna do right now.

Are you saying when you put the nozzle from the gas pump into your filler neck the jeep will not take any fuel?? that right?

Oke doke, I'm curious to see what the cause is.. there is no way I can fanthom how jump starting another car is preventing the jeep from taking gas.

HAHA, No I was helping a woman jump start her husband mini van who was a doctor. And about that time my friends G/F came running over and told me that gas was spewing out of my tank. But anyway I dropped the tank and checked everything then installed it back and miraculously it worked. Now my gauge reads a little over 3/4 full. I don't get these things sometimes. Maybe God was punishing me J/K.
