Gilmer 1-31-09

Well it was a REALLY long day but we had a blast out there. This was the first time I had actually wheeled my own rig there. We got there about 9 and hit trails. I am not sure what all trails we went on but we did a lot. I didnt really get a whole lot of pics but we got lots of videos I just have to get them posted up. My truck ended up last until about 3:33. I hit up scorpion pass and tried the right side and jus couldnt get up it. So then I tried the middle and the front end got REALLY light and lifted the front left tire a couple feet off the ground. Finally I just backed down and drove up the far left side. After that we hit up Dewoody and I pretty much walked right up the middle. I thought about trying the left side but didnt really want to tear up anything since we are going back for mega run so we decided to hold off on that. After the we did some other trails and had one jeep roll over on its side and then we went to houston creek. At the very end of houston creek most people go up the left side but to right there is a big rock that I went over. I had a little bit of trouble getting lined up but once I did I was able to get over it. After that I got to lookin at the front of my truck and when I swapped in the 56" long springs I put a piece of 4X4 square tubing across the front of the frame and have the front spring mounts on the bottom of that. Well some of the welds broke and it actually split some of the metal near the welds and the crossmember was rolled up some. I can tell my front springs are really starting to get broke in because the front is twisting up a lot better. Anyways on to the pics. I will try to get some video up today too.

Its STEEP!! I am at 134" wheelbase and my front end got really light!! I was watching the video and it really doesnt do it justice but if you look at the trees in the back ground and then compare it to the truck it gives you a pretty good idea.

Good to see ya up there this weekend! Too bad we didn't get to do any ridin together. I got my rig up on scorpion, but the back 38s kinda dissapeared in the lower undercut. Monster is supposed to post a pic up of it later. Wenie world ext is getting cut out more everytime I go up there. It actually took me 2 tries to make it up this time instead of my normal one hit wonder...lol! Woody has gotten easier. I started giving rides up the middle line. I think I did the middle 3 times and started up the right side once before it pitched me back to the middle.

How in the heck did your short as sami on 38s make it up scorpion pass? LOL I bet that was pretty crappy feelin being in a shorter rig. The undercut on the right side was swalloing my 49's. When I tried the middle it just pulled the left front tire up off the ground. I didnt even try the left side at all.

Oh ok thats more like it. I didnt think you would of been able to make it over it. Damon did it in his blazer with 46s. He is 118" wheelbase. He went right up the middle and he couldn't get around the tree so he had to back down and got pulled up the ride side.

I finally got this video posted. I have never put videos on line so I dont know how long it is supposed to take. The first video was of me coming up to it but it said there was a error and went to the next one. This one doesnt really show a whole lot but it uploaded so I will post it.

Looks like ya had fun. I wanted to check out your rig and I thought everyone was going to meat at DeWoody for some reason. We had been running bunny trails all morning and I was ready for something fun when I pasted your group.

As far as the Mega run goes, It's not too crowed if you don't sign up with the guided runs. We normally just get a few rigs and run what we want to. Gilmer has a few fun hills to play on and one that I won't even try. Scorpion is a no no in my book. I've seen Jonas and my Brother in law make it look stupid but I just cann't ever get my heavy PIG up it. It was perfect this weekend as far as the rain is consered. It was just enough to keep the dust down. That place sucks when it's muddy.

My wife's rig is 106" on 38's and I drive it up scorpion pass. My rig 109" on 37's and it goes up also.

Austin- that guy you was riding around with you in the black jeep named Barnwell. I have spotted him up that trail also, and he runs 38's on his rig.

That trail is way harder for longer WB trucks because of the break over angle. People really freak out when I tell them to back up and bump it. lol
