Shallowater wheelin!!!

I'd long heard rumors about the trail just north west of town, but I'd never seen it in action. Low and behold, it's been there all this time!!!

It was kind of rough at first, too much so for the 3/4 ton pickup I had availalble that day--with nearly 12" of lift even. Sooo... I had to rely on the strap.

First obstacle, we call this one "Getting going"

Getting going is followed by "Rutted Field". It's a series of wide right turns, that sweeps towards "Basketball Hill".

This is a tricky section leading up to the "House of Rock". We decided to take the bypass since the engine seemed to disappear on us...

Don't let the bypass fool you though. Lots of carnage has occured here. It's best to have spare axles, tires, and even a hi-lift at the ready.

And of course, the obligatory poser shot. This is Fourwheelerjeff with one of his many projects.

I'd rate this trail as mildly difficult. It shouldn't be attempted without the minimums of steering, brakes, and 35"+ tires. A Ford V6 engine and transmission, coupled to an axle and 2 5/16th ball is mandatory recovery equipment. And if attempting on sub 40* days, gloves would be helpful. Overall it was a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon, test out the new camera phone, and can be fit in between other errands... Thanks Jeff!

There is one other obstacle I forgot to mention there as well, and can be seen in the third pic just ahead of the recovery vehicle. It's called the "No-name Trailer". Lots of rigs have attempted it, but in the end they all end up with some sort of car-nage.

I've seen that truck and trailer. The trailer flexes better than the truck.
